Udupi: 17th annual children's literary conference held in Barkur

Udupi, Jan 12: “The interest of children in Kannada literature is subdued due to the use of mobile phones. This is the cause for the downfall of the language,” said film director and actor Kasargod Chinna.

He was speaking after inaugurating the '17th annual children's literary conference' for Udupi district level high school students, held at Barkur Rukmini Shedthy memorial national government first grade college premises on Thursday, January 11.

The conference was organized under the aegis of Barkur Swamy Vivekananda cultural centre, Khsetra Dharmastala Shantivana trust, Udupi, Zilla panchayat department of public instruction, Ramakrishna Ashram Belagavi and Mangaluru and Barkur online dot com, on the eve of silver jubilee celebration of Dharmastala yoga and ethical education project, 155th birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda and 'Vimshati' celebration of Swamy Vivekananda cultural center.

 



Continuing his speech Chinna said, “Students should develop knowledge of Kannada literature by developing interest in reading stories, poems and other books. Books are good companion of man” .

Releasing a book of collection of poems written by litterateur and lecturer Dr Kathyayini Kunjibettu he said, "finding novelty in nature is literature. Man looks for beauty in it."

Tenth grade student of Hescutur government high school, Sranjana, chaired the conference.

District physical education officer, Madhuker S, Shantivan trust secretary B Seetharama Tholpadithaya, Dharmastala yoga and ethical education project director Shashikanth Jain, Barkur college principal K Vasanth Raj Shetty, Barkur Ranganakeri Shettigar industries proprietor Srinivas Shettigar, chief organizer Rama Sajangadde, Barkur online dot com manager Kishore Gonsalves were present.

State level best teacher awardee headmaster B T Naik, state level national service project organizer awardee Savitha Ermal were felicitated on the occasion. Sathlinga and Ranjith Kumar Bennekudru were felicitated for their achievements in sports.

Prateeksha welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Prakash Acharya and Pallavi. B Ashok C Poojary, B Gururaja Rao and others helped in coordinating the function. Janardhan Udupa proposed vote of thanks.
