Puttur: Dacoits assault and loot cash from truck driver

Puttur, Jan 13: In an incident that happened on the night of Thursday January 11, four, car-borne, persons allegedly attacked a truck driver and looted cash from him at a deserted place near Gundya junction on National Highway 75 under Uppinangady police station limits.

Abdul Ravoof (26), son of Mohammed, a resident of Gadiyar, Peramogaru of Kedila village is the victim from whom the assailants looted Rs 17,000. He was taking plywood from Mangaluru to Bengaluru.

As he approached Gundya junction and proceeded further at around 10.30 pm, a red Swift car followed his truck. When the truck reached around 4 km from Gundya junction, the car suddenly blocked the way of the truck and three people who got down from the car, pulled Abduravoof from the truck and assaulted him with an iron rod. They also took the wallet from his trousers after brandishing a knife at him.

When the attackers saw an approaching vehicle, they escaped from the spot towards Gundya and took the ignition key of the truck with them. As per the complaint filed by the driver of the truck the assailants spoke in Tulu.

Uppinangady police have registered a case in this connection.
