Panaji: New Governor Takes Charge of State

Panaji, Jul 21:
Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu, Governor of Manipur and the governor designate of Goa, will be sworn in today.
 
Chief Justice of Bombay high court Justice Swatanter Kumar will administer oath of office at the Raj Bhavan.

An Indian Administrative Officer of 1952 batch, Dr Sidhu was born on October 13, 1929. He is MA in economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and  Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in economics, University of Kanpur. Under Uttar Pradesh State government, he served as secretary to three Chief Ministers of U.P., served as district magistrate, Kanpur and as divisional commissioner of Agra. Under the Central Government he served as the secretary to Government of India in the ministry of health and family welfare, advisor to the Governor of Punjab, secretary to government of India, ministry of industrial development,ministry of civil aviation and tourism. He has also served as the chairman, Air India and chairman, Indian Airlines and also advisor to the Governor of Tamil Nadu.

Dr Sidhu has also served as the secretary general, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an organ of United Nations, Montreal, Canada frp,1988 to 1991. He also held special assignments in commonwealth secretariat for evaluation of Commonwealth Fund for Technical Development in the islands of south Pacific Ocean betweem June and August 1994. He headed anNGO called Foundation for Aviation and Sustainable (FAST)May, 1992 to August 4, 2004.

The Governor designate to Goa has authored several books such as, Steel Industry in India-Problems and Perspective, Aviation and Sustainable Tourism-Emerging Trends, New Horizons in Travel & Tourism-Asian Approach, Flight into the millennium-Aviation & Tourism symbiosis, Tourism & Aviation-Airborne for Progress, Aviation and Tourism-Synergy for Success.
