Three workers killed in Mumbai crane crash


Mumbai, Jan 2 (IANS): In a New Year Day tragedy, three contract workers of the BMC were killed when the front portion of a massive crane crashed on them in Powai area here on Monday evening, officials said.

According to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Disaster Control, the incident occurred around 6.00 p.m. when the labourers were digging a pit for a sewerage line near the IIT-Bombay main gate.

"The front portion of the crane, or bucket, broke and fell on the labourers working there for the sewage lines. While three succumbed instantly, two other injured labourers have been admitted to the Rajawadi Hospital," said the official.
