Udupi, Dec 31: Beautiful pooches from all over Udupi won hearts at the ‘Dog show- 2017’ held at open theatre ground, Ajjarakad on December 31.

The event was organised as part of ‘Udupi Parba’, in association with district administration, Karnataka Veterinary Medical Association and District Animal Protection Association.

District-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurating the dog show expressed his happiness that there are many people in Udupi who love dogs and take care of them.

“There is a belief that if one cares for animals, God will bless them. A relationship between a dog and a human is beautiful. The dog is always loyal to master” he said.

Madhwaraj who is fond of dogs brought his Siberian Husky to participate in the show. The animal literally stole the show and was awarded the first place in Siberian breed category.

Udupi resident Alwyn Barnes had brought several of his pedigree dogs to participate in the contest. “I have brought many breeds like Dachshund, Siberian, Paggu breed, Spids breed. Dog shows should be held often as it will motivate people to look after dogs and it is an exciting event for animals too,” he opined.

Another dog owner Ravindra Shetty from Ajjarakad brought his three year old Great Dane. “My dog likes vegetarian than non vegetarian food. I have been nurturing him since he was two months and it is the first time the dog is participating in a show,” he said.

I still remember the Dog Show which had been organized around 20 years ago at Veterinary Hospital close to our house & I had won the first prize in Pomeranian category. It was a very active dog & had the habit of shaking it's tail to all those who pet it and it must have got the prize for that reason. Pramod's mom was the chief guest of the function and had given away the prizes.
