Kundapur: Koteshwar Kinara beach festival committee inaugurates 'Oormani Habba'

Kundapur, Dec 30: "Unveiling the exquisite beauty and nature of 400 km long coast from Ullal to Karwar to the outside world is the main aim of 'Oormani Habba'. This is the celebration of rural quintessence," said Kota Sreenivas Poojary, MLC.

He spoke after inaugurating the 'Oormani Habba' festival by releasing balloons. The festival was celebrated as part of 'Udupi Parba' at the Kinara beach of Koteshwar-Beejadi. This programme was organized by Koteshwar Kinara beach festival committee with the co-operation of district administration, Udupi department of tourism, Kundapur town municipality, gram panchayat of Koteshwar and Beejadi and local youth unions.



"We thought that preserving the sea means dropping stones into the sea. However, now the government is stressing on tourism. Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are in the forefront of Human Development Index (HDI). Accordingly, we have the responsibility of developing coastal region into a beautiful land and thereby attracting tourism," he added.

Presiding over the function, Jayashree Sudhakara Mogaveera, president, Kundapur taluk panchayat said, "We are getting the grant from the government for the development of tourist spots. However, as this is a natural tourist spot, there is no need for any development. However, importance has to be given to developing basic infrastructure for tourists who visit these spots."

"First time in the history of Kundapur, 'Nammoora Habba' is being organized. Everyone's cooperation is needed to make this programme a grand success. We will organize more beautiful functions in coming days," said Shilpa Nag, assistant commissioner, Kundapur sub-division.

Heriyanna Chathrabettu, former president of fisheries development corporation, Rajesh Kaveri, vice-president, town municipality, members of zilla panchayat Sreelatha Suresh Shetty and Laxmi Manju Billava, Anita, assistant director, district tourism department and Janaki Billava, president, Koteshwar gram panchayat spoke on the occasion.

Fr John Alfred Barboza, parish priest of Hangalur Church, Uday Kumar Shetty, president, Koteshwar beach festival committee, Violet Baretto, member, taluk panchayat, Saku Beejadi, president, Beejadi gram panchayat, Jayanti Ganiga, vice-president, Prakash G Poojari and Bhaskar Billava, members of panchayat were present.

Subramanya Shetty, secretary, welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by journalist Chandrashekar Beejadi.
