Mangaluru: Elaborate arrangements for overnight stay of PM Modi in city

Mangaluru, Dec 18: In view of scheduled arrival at the airport here and stay at Circuit House by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, elaborate security arrangements have been made in the city, airport, and the route from airport to circuit house.

This happens to be first ever stay by a Prime Minister in the city in the recent years.

The police have been setting up barricades on the road to circuit house. Police personnel have been stationed to monitor the situation and CCTV cameras have been installed at various spots. City police and airport security officials held separate meetings and held discussed about steps which need to be taken. City police commissioner, T R Suresh, held meeting with deputy commissioners of police, as well as district superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Eddy, and deputy superintendents of police. Traffic assistant commissioner of police, Manjunath Shetty, discussed the issue in a meeting in which other assistant commissioners of police and inspectors participated.

In tune with the protocol, director general of polcie of Karnataka, Neelamani N Raju, and additional director general of police, Kamal Panth, would be arriving in the city today.

The police, who have taken all kinds of measures to ensure security, are also examining the possibility of ensuring zero traffic during the journey of the Prime Minister from the airport to Circuit House. Two helicopters have already arrived at the airport here on Sunday, as Modi would be going to Lakshadweep by helicopter from here. Three special bullet proof vehicles arrived by special flight on Sunday and special security officers of the Prime Minister have also come.

During the visit of the Prime Minister, only the local MP, mayor of the corporation, deputy commissioner of the district, and police commissioners have the provision to extend welcome. In addition, BJP is allowed to send five of its representatives into the airport. It is said that BJP state president and other office bearers would not be here to welcome the Prime Minister.
