Mangaluru: 'Agents of underworld elements active in coastal region'

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Dec 16: Once upon a time, Mangaluru had links with the underworld. The activities of gangs were being controlled by underworld elements, who were based in foreign countries. However, over time, the underworld link became weak. But now certain people, who are acting as the agents of the underworld elements, have started to show their ugly hand, as per the information received by the police.

Police have unearthed a racket of agents, during the inquiry of the recent shootout incident that took place at Car Street, who are conveying information about entrepreneurs and rich people to the underworld dons. Already two people are under the police scanner. The confidence of such agents is shaken by the serious approach of the city and district police, who have started rigorous operation to catch hold of them.

Though the suspects in the Car Street shootout case were speaking in Kannada, the chances of them belonging to the Dakshina Kannada district, is very slim, say police. Moreover, the businessmen have not received any threat calls from the underworld elements. However, the details of other phone calls to the affluent people are being scrutinized as per the sources close to the investigation team.

"If anyone gets calls of threat or demand for ransom, report the same to the commissioner's office in person. Do not try to hide the issue. Only then, we will be able to prevent the consequences that might occur in future. The information relayed to police will be kept in strict confidence,” says T R Suresh, city police commissioner.

Police should dismantle all underworld links existing in our districts.

Even with the slightest clue they should investigate and reach to its logical end.

People should also co operate and share information with police which they get.

All rowdy elements should also be dismantled.

They should not wait till something happens.
