Puttur, Dec 15: In an incident which happened at Arlapadavu Keelampady in Panaje village in the taluk on Wednesday December 13 evening, a carpenter, who had scaled the attic of the house of an acquaintance, died due to cardiac arrest after having suffered electric shocks. This incident gave rise to wild speculations, which died down after the postmortem report was received.

The deceased was Prabhakar Acharya (48) from Katukukke Oddya. He had gone up the attic of a house belonging to Avvamma, whom he knew since the last eight years, for collecting some corrugated boxes dropped there. Later, he was found to have died in the attic. Postmortem of the body was conducted late night on Wednesday and the reason for the death has been given as cardiac arrest arising out of electric shocks.

Acharya was on a visit to a family in Bollimbala on Tuesday and Wednesday relating to work on the roof of a cattle shed. He had finished work at 5 pm on Wednesday and left for the house of Avvamma four km away. The family members of Avvamma say that Acharya sought a long pole. During his visit, the daughter of Avvamma requested Acharya to bring her corrugated boxes kept in the attic, at which Acharya went there. He did not come down for considerable time. Both Avvamma and her daughter went up and saw that Acharya's lifeless body was lying there. They then informed the locals who gave information to the police.

The situation turned volatile after rumours spread that a Hindu carpenter was killed in the house of a Muslim woman. Hundreds of people who gathered near Avvamma's house went away peacefully after the cause of death was decided as electrocution. District superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, too visited the family. He asked those who have doubt about the cause of death to be present during the postmortem. The police also visited the house where Acharya was working prior to his death and collected information.

Assistant commissioner, Raghunandan Murthy, deputy superintendent of police, Srinivas, police circle inspector, Gopal Naik, rural police station house officer, Abdul Khader, town station sub-inspector, Mahesh Prasad, sub-inspector, Omana and others visited the spot. A case was registered at the rural police station here.
