Police fire at notorious rowdy Yashwant in Kalaburagi, three injured

Kalaburagi, Dec 15: Police personnel fired at and injured notorious rowdy from the city, Yashwant, on Friday December 15. The incident happened at Tavaragera Cross in the outskirts of the city.

Yashwant, who is facing allegation of kidnapping a KEB contractor and murdering him thereafter, had succeeded in escaping from police net since the lat two months. Yashwant is known to be one of the leading personalities involved with illegal trafficking of firearms.

 

The police had set up barricades at Tavaragera Cross, as they knew in advance that Yashwant was coming that way. Yashwant tried to drive away by hitting his vehicle against the barricade. The police personnel initially fired at the tyres of the vehicle. Yashwant then got down from his vehicle and brazenly attacked the policemen. The police, in retaliation, fired two rounds at him and injured Yashwant in the leg.

Two police constables of rural police station here were injured in the operation. Both of them stand admitted into United Hospital here. The injured constables have been identified as Kupendra and Kushan.

District superintendent of polcie, N Shashikumar, visited the spot and undertook scrutiny, guided the officials, besides gathering full details. Several senior police officers too rushed to the spot and conducted verification. A case about the incident was registered in rural police station here.
