Koppal, Dec 15: Agitated at the fact that the police thwarted them for garlanding the chief minister (CM) at the convention of Congress workers at Kushtagi in the district, the crowd that had gathered at the venue went berserk. Some leaders of the party joined hands with their fans in tossing chairs and stones at the police. This happened on Thursday December 14.

The government's 'Sadhana Samavesha' chaired by the CM had been organized at Taluk Agricultural Produce Cooperative Marketting Society ground in Kushtagi town on Thursday December 14. State secretary of backward classes unit of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Dileep Kumar, came forward to garland the CM. But the police stopped him against reaching the dais in view of security concerns.

Although the district superintendent of police asked the people to stay away from the dais, fans of Dileep Kumar tried to force their way to the dais. The police then used their canes to send them back. The workers, who got further infuriated, jostled and pushed the police around. The police dispersed them again. The crowd then threw stones and chairs at the police. The police thereafter succeeded in bringing the situation under control.

The CM asked the crowd to remain quiet but the people did not heed to his advice. He then advised party leaders to stop indulging in such gimmicks. "You cannot expect to get party ticket by raising a din at public meetings. Number of people you bring along and clout you wield will not matter. Those who do not get tickets resort to causing such disturbances. Those who are sure that they get tickets remain calm," he commented.
