Teacher couple sacked on wedding day, school claims 'romance' will affect students

Srinagar, Dec 14 (PTI): A teacher couple working in a private school in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir were sacked on their wedding day with the school management claiming their "romance could adversely affect the students".

Tariq Bhat and Sumaya Bashir, residents of Tral town in Pulwama, were working in Boys' and Girls' wings, respectively, of Pampore Muslim Educational Institute for the past several years.

They alleged their services were abruptly terminated by the school management on November 30, the day they entered the wedlock.

While the principal of the school did not respond to calls for a comment on the sacking, chairman of the school Bashir Masoodi said the duo were relieved from service as they were in a "romantic relationship" before getting married.

"They were having romance and it is not good for the 2,000 students of the school and 200 staff members working there. This can adversely affect the students," Masoodi told PTI.

On other queries, he asked the reporter to "visit the school and talk to the principal for it".

The couple claimed that they had an arranged marriage.

"Ours was an arranged marriage. We got engaged a few months ago and the entire school management knew about it as Sumaya hosted a party for the staff members soon after the engagement ceremony," Bhat said.

He questioned the school management's claim of "romantic relationship", asking why they were not given an opportunity to explain if it were the case.

"We both applied for leave to get married almost a month before the wedding day and the school management sanctioned the leave. If we were in a romantic relationship, did they come to know of it only after we announced our wedding plans?" Bhat asked.

The couple alleged the school management was "tarnishing" their image.

"We have got married which is the right thing to do from which ever perspective one looks at it. We have not sinned or committed a crime," they said.

Such a foolish case was not heard before.Thtaswhy simply dont argue with management .But take a lawyer and let them explain the type of romance and what bad in it is.They have to take back their throwing them, and ask for compansation for throwing themout of duty without prenotice. They have to give notice in first when romance was going ,.Both without job now will be very bad.Of course job in other schools they might find. But this is no reason a person to fire from job.

Any kind of romance or relationship even if it is inter caste or religion when it ends in marriage all the opponents of the relation support it as it ends in wedlock and commitment. But in this case as per claim it was an arranged marriage of known people of same faith but still they are fired as students may take it as an example to love each other. This all even not one percent as everything like videos available for the young men just in finger tips due to the internet revolution.

Wedding is an event of a life-time. By sacking the couple teachers, the school management has taken the students' academic year just for granted.

They would have given the rules before appointing teachers in their school. Here they are punishing the staff for some others mistakes....
If the management is really bothered about the staff and students about their future then they would have asked any one staff to resign, because couples are not allowed to work in their institution.

Looks like; first such incident to take place on the wedding day.
Instead of gifting & blessing the couple, the management snatched their livelyhood and happiness. They could have served prior notice or warning in that direction. It's in human act. Their honeymoon must have got drowned in tears !
