Interim bail for Kannada editor Ravi Belagere on health ground


Bengaluru, Dec 14 (IANS): A local court on Wednesday granted interim bail, on health grounds, to jailed Kannada tabloid editor Ravi Belagere, arrested for allegedly hiring a gunman to kill his ex-colleague Sunil Heggaravalli in "Hai Bengaluru" weekly paper.

Accepting Belagare's plea for relief due to serious illness, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Madhusudhan granted him three-day bail till December 16 on a Rs 1 lakh bond with two sureties.

Earlier in the day, Belagere was shifted to state-run Victoria Hospital in the city from the central prison after his health condition worsened due to breathing problem and other complications.

Belagare, 59, was on Monday sent to a 12-day judicial custody after he was arrested on December 8.

Another local court had on December 9 sent Belagere to four days police custody for interrogation in the case.
