Colo-Colo win Chilean top flight title


Santiago, Dec 10 (IANS): Colo-Colo secured their 32nd Chilean first division football title by defeating Huachipato 3-0 away in their last match of the season.

Jaime Valdez converted a spot-kick in the 73rd minute for the Santiago club at the Ester Roa stadium in the southern city of Concepcion on Saturday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Uruguayan striker Octavio Rivero doubled the visitors' lead before forward Nicolas Orellana blasted a shot past Bolivian goalkeeper Carlos Lampe.

With the victory, Colo-Colo finished two points above rivals Union Espanol in the competition standings.

Universidad Chile were third, a point further back.
