Kerala: Mother strangulates baby to death for not having 'her colour', held

Kottayam, Dec 10 (Deccan Chronicle): A mother was arrested following the death of an eight-day-old baby at Murikkattukudy near Kattapana on Saturday. Sandhya, 28, wife of Murikattukudy Kandathinkara Binu, and the mother of the baby was arrested for murdering the baby.

According to the police, the mother strangulated her baby to death by using a cloth round its neck.

Sources in Kattapana police said that the woman confessed to the crime and that she killed the baby as it didn’t have her colour and facial features of her husband.

The woman committed the murder inside her house and told her husband that the baby was not showing any movement. Though the baby was rushed to the nearby hospital, it succumbed to the injuries.

The doctors who attended the baby at the hospital found marks on the neck of the baby and informed the police.

Sandhya confessed to committing the crime during further interrogation.

The couple who were married 10 years ago has another child who is nine years old. The police has registered a murder case against the woman.

It's very rare and abnormal. But there are abnormal characters in this universe and so many are not reported, specially from begging community. In these case there may have been accusations of infidelity.
Education alone can not change the society; there should be moral education and ethical code of conduct to everyone.

Indian culture. If you don't like anyone, kill that person. This lady must have been influenced by BJP/RSS and other fringe groups which kill people due to caste/religion/language.

"she killed the baby as it didn’t have her colour and facial features of her husband."

Probably she knew why the baby didn't the father's color or his facial features and didn't want to be questioned later on as the child grew up and developed more features that did not match her husband's.

Something is seriously wrong. As a nation we are failing. Empathy, human feelings, love, understanding, family relationships all are slowly vanishing. Just look at the other recent cases of a teenager killing a young fellow student, just a small child for wanting the school tests to be postponed. Another youngster killing his own mother and sister, influenced by a violent video game. Teens kidnapping a friend for ransom and killing him, a celebrity killing her own daughter and plotting the same for her son...............These are just a few isolated incidents which are being reported. Hatred, division, anger are flavours of the day....................Is this the beginning of the end for the human race? I wonder.

This is very disgusting and brings shame on motherhood. A mother, never see the color, features or sex but a gift from the Almighty God. When she becomes pregnant, she sees the unseen and becomes joyful inspite of any health issues and when she delivers at the right time she forgets the past and embrace the child with gratitude to God. But this woman, I feel, has different issue. She is not forgiven. Moreover, her elder child will be mentally disturbed. May the Lord give justice to this woman and strength to her husband and the 10 years old child to move forward.

Surprisingly, it was not other way round. (God forbid)
How she was living with her husband if she was not happy with his features. ?

This is probably not due to colour, but the sex of the child. We want mother, sister and wife, but, why not a daughter ? Yesterday, at Andheri station, they found four sisters aged 7, 6, 5 and 2 (Again I say two) roaming around the platform They are from MP and looking at their maltreatment, a neighbor put them in a train, while their father was away. The elder has her hand fractured and full of bruises by beating. They said their mother is working at homes and father is unemployed. Since he had no son, he used to beat these children often. Dear friends, are these people mentally ok ?

@Santhan mascarenhas, these people are (mostlymen) not humans.I cameacross a case in 70s in a maternity wardAlady had come for delivery.simple .from mangalore.she delivered and was a girl 4th one.As we were busy with morning work .all of a sudden we heard noice in labour rooma nd rushed to see lady had fallen from bed ,and was profusely bleeding,in a shock.but we got her back.she later told us that her husband had told her that if she comes again witha girl he would put her out.,because they had already three. When the husband came we warned him suppose he does anything wrong to her we will complain to police.and girls are a big blessing to parents than boys.second case was I worked in a private hospital one woman came for a tumour in stomach!she got operated and to my dismay saw a Foetus was takenout of uterus live.I cant till today dont forget the scene.Husband had no clue about it before or later.Tumour was taken out and everything fine to him.we couldnt do anything about it.So must be here too I find. They should have made a DNA test I find. Then the truth would comeout.many agree with my thinking that it came from infidelity.
