Alwar, Dec 8: The Rajasthan police shot dead a youth who along with accomplices was allegedly illegally transporting cows in Alwar district.

Police claim that 22-year-old Talim Khan was killed in retaliatory firing on wee hours of Thursday.

The mobile patrolling team spotted a group of 5-7 people loading cows in a "stolen" mini truck. When police tried to stop them, they opened fired.

“They managed to escape three check posts by breaking barricades. The driver switched off the truck's headlights and went towards the Kali Mori flyover. As soon as they came down the flyover, the NEB police station team fired at the truck. Two bullets broke the windshield and killed Khan who was sitting near the driver's seat,” said district superintendent of police Rahul Prakash.

He further added that the police team managed to puncture the vehicle’s tyres by laying a plank with wooden nails. Even with a flattened tyre, the driver of the truck managed to drive about half-a-kilometre and turned towards the thickly-populated Janta Colony. At 2.20 am, the smugglers abandoned their truck in the middle of the locality and fled from the spot, leaving Khan inside the vehicle.

The bullet-riddled body of Talim Khan was found inside the cabin of a mini truck along with a country-made pistol, a mobile phone, a diary and live cartridges.

Five cows, with their legs tied up, were found in the mini truck. One of them was found dead. Police suspect the cows were made to drink acid to prevent them from making a noise.

Police avoiding post mortem, allege family

Meanwhile, Talim Khan’s family and Meo community have refused to accept his body. They alleged that the police was avoiding post mortem.

“We were told that a medical board would be constituted but that did not happen. Then we were told that the post mortem will be done on Friday. We are not going to accept the body without post mortem,” Meo leader Sher Mohammed said.

However, the post mortem is not likely to be done till Saturday because government doctors in the state are on mass leave on Friday.

Director General of Police OP Galhotra has said that the encounter killing was being probed by the CID-CB according to the guidelines of the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission.
