Udupi: Rare music fusion - Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain weaves magic

Udupi, Dec 7: Rajangana of Sri Krishna Math here witnessed a rare fusion between instrumental musics of Hindustani and Carnatic styles on Wednesday December 6. Tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain, created an air of illusion and held the audiences spellbound with his magical rendering along with Kumaresh on violin and his wife, Jayanthi Kumaresh, on Veena, matching Hussain in every move. The trio created 'Nada Layamrita' with their beautiful, soulful effort.

The abilities of the three artistes who are masters in their own respective fields, seemed to compete with each other and prove their skills. At the same time, the music lovers from the city and surrounding areas, who had come particularly to witness Zakir Hussain in large numbers, feasted on the magic conjured up by the trio in front of their eyes. What the people experienced was three instruments giving out a unified, mellifluous, flow of thrilling music.

Zakir in particular, who was sweating because of the sultry climate here, was at his best with unbelievable deftness of fingers, spiritual experience he created, combined with his flowing hair which seemed to dance to the tunes of the music. Kumaresh couple ably supported him and created an event which is sure to linger long in the minds of the audiences.
