Mangaluru: Dr Kadri Gopalnath chosen for MCC’s lifetime achievement award

Mangaluru, Dec 6: Internationally acclaimed saxophonist, Dr Kadri Gopalnath, has been chosen for Ullal Srinivas Mallya Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award being given by the city corporation here. The awards function will be held at Town Hall here from 2.30 pm onward on December 8.

Addressing a press conference at the city corporation office here on Tuesday Deember 5, mayor, Kavitha Sanil, said that Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, will be conferring the award.

"Agari Raghuram Bhagawath has been chosen for achievement in Yakshagana field, K A Rohini for achievement in educational sector, and M R Poovamma for sports achievement. Srinivas Mallya award carries cash component of one lac rupees while the achievement awards come with cash of Rs 50,000 each," she explained.

The achievers were picked by a selection committee of five members headed by retired vice chancellor of Hampi University, Dr B A Vivek Rai. People living within the limits of the city corporation have been considered during the selection process, she added.

The awards function will be inaugurated by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, while city mayor, Kavitha Sanil, will preside over it. District in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, food and civil supplies minister, U T Khader, chief whip of the government in legislative council, Ivan D'Souza, chief whip of the opposition in legislative council, Capt Ganesh karnik, MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and MLA, J R Lobo, will grace the occasion.

Deputy mayor, Rajneesh, chief fwhip of the corporation council, Shashidhar Hegde, chairperson of standing committee, Sabita Misquith, and corporation commissioner, Muhammed Nazeer, were among those present at the press conference.
