Survey finds BJP, Congress in dead heat in Gujarat, BJP calls it 'off the mark'

New Delhi, Dec 5 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday dismissed as "wide off the mark" a new opinion polls findings that showed the Congress gaining heavily and fast catching up with the ruling party in Gujarat as well as closing the gap between the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi as compared to the similar last two polls done in August and October.

The Congress welcomed the findings saying the voters in Gujarat have already decided to vote the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government out.

The Lokniti-CSDS survey done in the last week of November among 3,655 voters across 50 assembly constituencies threw up some surprising results as it found the Congress leading among voters who take pride in their Gujarati identity over national identity, suggesting that the "Gujarati Asmita" card might not work as the BJP expects it to.

It also found Rahul Gandhi's popularity surging while that of Modi taking a slight hit and the gap between the two leaders' likeability by the public narrowing down to just seven points from 16 points in October. With 64 per cent votes, Modi still remains the most popular leader in the state though.

The survey noted that over the last month the Congress staged an "impressive recovery" in the southern and central regions of Gujarat where it had been trailing the BJP by quite a huge margin. In north Gujarat, the Congress has managed to hold on to its "fairly big lead" over the BJP, it said.

In rural Saurashtra, the Congress is the front runner while the BJP dominates in urban Saurashtra. This rural-urban pattern of support is evident in most parts of the state, the poll said.

The survey opined that economic hardships faced by the voters is a major reason behind the Congress' rise and also a major reason for the Patidars' support to the Congress besides Hardik Patel's call to defeat the BJP over their unmet demand for reservation.

"It seems that India's rise in World Bank's ease of doing business ranking, Moody's ratings upgrade for the Indian economy and the concessions given by the government with regard to GST have not really improved voters' perception of Modi's performance," the survey said.

The survey also ascribed the Congress' new found support among women as another reason for its rising popularity. A month ago, women were found to be strongly backing the BJP over the Congress (50:39 per cent). This 11 point gap has now reduced to just two points, the opinion poll found.

Welcoming the survey findings, Congress Spokesman Sanjay Jha said the survey "clearly manifests that there is an increasing momentum towards the Congress party in Gujarat".

"The Gujarat voters have already decided to vote BJP government out, largely because the so-called ‘Gujarat Model' was a fictitious and fraudulent spin which today stands totally exposed. That is why a nervous BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the principal campaigner in Gujarat, are indulging in communal polarisation," Jha told IANS.

However, the BJP dismissed the poll findings as "off the mark" and said the Congress was nowhere in the race, much like the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

"Both the opinion and exit polls of the CSDS-Lokniti in Uttar Pradesh projected victory for the Congress-Samajwadi Party combine, which the BJP won with a landslide margin. The series of CSDS polls are as wide off the mark in Gujarat as they were in Uttar Pradesh," BJP Spokesman G.V.L. Narasimha Rao told IANS.

"The Congress party's so-called comeback in Gujarat is as strong as it was in Uttar Pradesh," he added.

The BJP lost the plot when they lost by the smallest of Margin the Recent Rajya Sabha lone seat to Ahmed Patil:

"Veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel retained his Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat by winning 44 votes, after the Election Commission ruled in the Congress’s favour and invalidated the votes of two rebel Congress MLAs who showed their ballots to BJP president Amit Shah. "

The supreme over confidence of the BJP and their overwhelming greed to win every single seat and to the extent of neglecting Parliamentary Duties Postponing the Winter session and shows their sheer desperation.
Their only election plank now is to Criticize the Congress and major Cabinet Ministers are all camping in Gujarat.
It seems that nature in the form of Cyclone (Plus Rahul Cyclone) s against them .

Only Every Vote Modi can save them now.
This is truly the beginning of the end for BJP and they have already given up on 2019 .

Fews days left so the last hope for the Communal party is as follows :
    1. Rake up or create some Hindu Muslim issue to communalize and polarize voters on religion.
    2. Rake up or create some Pakistan issue to communalize and polarize voters on religion.
    3. Use any fabricated issue to portray the Congress or Congress individual as Muslim appeasing.
    4. Use any fabricated issue to portray the Congress as pro Pakistan.
    5. Start some conflict with Pakistan/China.
    6. Surgical strike on empty bunkers and flash it 24X7 on screens of their 'friendly TV channels'.
    7. Fabricate story to show any Congress leaders (past or present) or ally leaders in bad light.

    8. If all the above fail then resort to EVM magic.
    9. If EVM magic fails pressurize for recounting to try some magic there.
    10. If EVM and recounting magic too fails then offer 'ladoos and jalebis' to MLAs to cross over.

If that too fails then return Ambani's and Adani's money and take VRS in that state only.

Ever since BJP lost Delhi & Bihar, BJP became very desperate to win .
Hastily they used demonetization for self gain and to destroy funding of other parties but the same is back firing them now.
BJP's desperation was evident from the way they formed Govt in Goa and Manipur. They had lesser seats than INC, but through demonetization money power, they wrestled and formed unpopular Govt. This is the Party with difference!
They implemented GST hastily just to kill small industry for the benefit of Big industry who are funding them.
This also back firing them in elections. Bringing black money promise also is back firing them, all false promises are back firing them in elections.
So many incidence of EVM tampering is coming to light. Whenever in elections ballots used instead of EVM's BJP is loosing. Peoples frustration will come heavily on them.

Congress ruled states endorsed GST law.Even if Congress wins Gujarath elections it will be temporary oxygen.HP Congress will loose due to corruption and in UP local elections Congress came 4th.Best of luck to Pappu fans.

BJP tight lip on its popularity in Gujarat this time. The whole election campaign has shifted from 'Vikas' to 'veenash' with only Congress bashing day in and out.
Whatever may be the survey gives by the pre poll predictions, I doubt BJP will never like to lose its strong turf at any cost.
The autonomous Election Commison of India has already favoured BJP in Gujarat by not announcing the election dates even though result for Himachal Pradesh is going to on the same date. It is still unclear that why ECI I like to hold the result of Himachal Pradesh for 45 days after the elections and like to announce together is highly doubtable? Why the same EVM used in Himachal Pradesh can't be used after announcing the result in Gujarat is surprising.
It is highly likely that Congress is going to win the Gujarat poll. BJP is already upbeat on the poll results in advance. With the grace of the ECI and entire administration in hand EVM will favour BJP's victory in Gujarat with full majority than Uttar Pradesh.

If development has taken place in gujarat with their rule since 21 years, why they so hey so much worried this time. why parliament session has been postponed to facilitate their leaders and pm to campaign for gujrat election. sometime we feel still now that whether modi is country 's pm or still cm of gujrat.

Media, media and media. English and Hindi TV channels gone crazy.

Two reports, two days and two tales. It was same media that celebrated and BJP's clean sweep in Gujarat yesterday. It is the same media which is telling there is dead heat between both parties. The bottom line, media wants to celebrate BJP win pre-maturely to push some borderline voters. But, at the same time, it wants an escape route to show itself as more credible if the numbers stack other way.

Indian's never used to such cunning TV Channels, but sooner they get used to, the better it is.
