Dortmund releases South Korean international Park Joo-ho

Berlin, Dec 5 (IANS): German Bundesliga football side Borussia Dortmund has announced the release of South Korean left back Park Joo-ho, terminating their three-year contract by mutual consent.

The 30-year-old joined Dortmund from fellow German club Mainz in 2015 on a transfer fee of 3 million euros (about $3.56 million), but played only 712 minutes in 11 matches and scored just one goal in the 2015 Europa League against FC Krasnodar, reports Xinhua news agency.

Park had to play with the team's under-23 squad this season since he failed to gain a spot in Dortmund's first team. He last played for the club on November 17 against Essen.

He was called up once this year by South Korea and featured in only one World Cup qualifying match as his national side reached the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Park, who also served Japanese side Mito Hollyhock, Kashima Antlers and Jubilo Iwata before going to Europe to play for Switzerland's FC Basel, has so far earned 32 caps for South Korea.
