Chamarajanagar, Dec 5: Two young men, who had entered the Kabini canal at Meenalla near Doddinduwadi village in Kollegal taluk died after the water draught sucked them away. The deceased were Poovarasan (19) and Guruprasad (20) from Neyveli village, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu.

Pooavarasan, Guruprasad and Purushotham had gone to the canal to bathe. Whilst Guruprasad was bathing in the canal, Purushotham was standing on the bank. It is said that another person had mistakenly worn the footwear of Purushotham. By the time Purushotham went away to claim his footwear back and return to the spot, he saw that both his friends, who had entered the canal, had been washed away by the strong draught of the water.

After Stalin, cousin of Pooovarasan, was informed about the tragedy, he got there. Even after prolonged search, the bodies could not be traced. Thereafter, Stalin filed a complaint at the rural police station at Kollegal.
