Mangaluru, Dec 3: Unknown thieves turned richer by four lac rupees after diverting the attention of a scooterist and stealing a bag containing cash from his possession. The incident happened on V T Road on Saturday December 2 morning.

Prakash from the city had visited a bank branch near PVS Circle on Saturday morning and drawn two lac rupees. He already had two lac rupees in his bag. He placed the bag containing four lac rupees in his scooter and was going through V T Road when he was suddenly stopped by two strangers near Yenepoya Hospital.

The strangers told him that some money from his bag had fallen off. Prakash stopped his scooter and went to pick the money found fallen on the road. As soon as he bent to pick the cash, the strangers picked the bag containing cash that was placed at the footrest of the scooter, and disappeared. When Prakash came back to the scooter, his bag had gone missing.

A complaint was thereafter filed in Bunder police station. The police, who have registered the case, are verifying CCTV footage from the area for possible cues about the culprits. The police believe that the gang knew in advance that Prakash was in possession of cash and that he was expected to move on this road. They guess that two persons would have scattered some money just before Prakash reached there, and two others would have diverted his mind and taken away the bag.
