Mangaluru, Dec 1: Abdul Hameed (69) from Innoli in Pavoor village near Ullal, who was on Umrah pilgrimage, died on Thursday November 30 at Haram, Mecca.

Abdul Hameed had served as Khateeb of mosques at Moodigere Handpost, Bajpe, Bekanahalli, Sangeen Jumma Masjid in Chikkamagaluru and Bayalupete Dargah mosque among others. He has left behind four daughters and two sons.

The deceased was part of a 55-member team from the city that had left for Mecca. After the morning namaz some days back, he had left for Haram, Mecca, duly telling other members of his team that he would return in a short while. He had left behind his identity card, cellphone and other things in his room. Therefore, the team and the agency arranging the tour failed to locate him even after a detailed search.

After searching for four days, some security personnel who identified the man on the basis of his photograph, told them about his death. The team members then visited the hospital and found that Hameed was no more.

The funeral had been planned for Thursday at Mecca and documents for the same had been completed, family sources said.
