Bengaluru: Modi's Rafale deal is injustice to Karnataka, says Congress

Bengaluru, Nov 29 (DHNS): The state Congress unit on Wednesday criticised the Narendra Modi administration over the controversy surrounding the Rafale fighter aircraft deal, saying leaving out Bengaluru-based HAL was "rendering injustice to Karnataka."

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Dinesh Gundurao said the deal finalized by the previous Congress-led UPA entailed purchase of 18 Rafales from the French aviation company Dassault and manufacture of 108 aircrafts at HAL.

"Why was the UPA's agreement scrapped arbitrarily?" Gundurao asked at a press conference here. "The previous agreement included transfer of technology to the HAL. It could have created so many jobs. Both Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman have done the state injustice" he added.

Dinesh Gundurao

He also accused the BJP-led centre for favouring Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence by announcing the purchase of 36 Rafales by cancelling the previous agreement UPA had inked.
"Does that mean that HAL is inferior compared with Ambani's company, which has no experience in the aviation sector?" Gundurao asked.

In 2015, Modi announced the purchase of 36 Rafales during his visit to France even as a previous deal for 126 aircraft was pending.

'Hegde is a hate machine'

Gundurao fired a salvo at BJP's firebrand Hindutva leader Ananthkumar Hegde. "He is a hate-creating machine," he said. "The mindset of the BJP leadership - B S Yeddyurappa, Pratap Simha, Shobha Karandlaje and C T Ravi - is nothing but a trash can," he added.

The BJP, Gundurao charged, had no respect for the father of the Indian Constitution B R Ambedkar. "If it wasn't for Congress, Ambedkar wouldn't have been chairman of the Constitution committee. The ideology of the RSS and BJP has no connection to Ambedkar. Remember, the Vajpayee government wanted to rewrite the Constitution and even formed a committee," he said.

Further, he attacked the BJP for disrespecting Ambedkar. "An Ambedkar portrait was found among trash in the BJP's Bengaluru headquarters. That's how they respect him," Gundurao taunted.

There is no statement from the govt of any rafeal fighter plane deal given to Reliance.
If somebody has it, they should show it.
Simply talking is of no use.

    Hello,

The same wire on which a 100 crore defamation case has been filed.
The same wire which is antibjp.
I am asking for a govt statement which says it has given a order for the Rafael's to be bought from reliance JV.
The present deal signed is between Indian govt and French govt.

    I read the article.
Nowhere it is mentioned that the Government made the joint venture between rafael and reliance.
Under the law, Defence joint ventures where the indian partner is 51% doesnt need approval from the govt.

I am surprised that being a minister,he doesn't even know that.
Or does he know and trying to spread fake news? Most probably.

Gundu Rao is spreading fake news.
    1. No agreement was done during UPA time.
    2. Joint deal between Rafael and reliance was not approved by the govt.
According to law, it doesn't require govt approval.
    3. Buying 36 ready to fly fighters was the only deal signed by the govt till now. There is no mention of any agreement to buy planes from the joint venture till today.

    Partially correct.
It would have been better if the deal was given to HAL, which has already upgraded Su 30 & developing Sukhoi FGFA,
HAL works for India not Karnataka get it right!
HAL could integrate technologies in other aircrafts if they had the technology transfer deal.

.. HAL has very poor record..due to previous Govts legacy they are very poor in attracting talent..outdated..TEJAS took 35 years, IAF contntiously rejecting TEJAS..but MODI from day one pushing IAF to accept it..we should know that its parent company which selects its subsidiary not Indian Govt..its achievement of MODI Govt wherein it pressured RAEFAL to transfer tech, Invest and built in India..whereas Congress deal was to make money through middlemen..

HAL might have poor record but Rafale is the worst aircraft in the world as per your Dr Subramanian Swamy. If Swamy to be believed, don't you think natiional security is compromised just to please a friend by awarding a mega business award? And the erstwhile defense minister who's an IIT engineer who could perhaps be better judge of the efficiency of Rafale was bypassed during the deal.
