Mangaluru: Yakshagana artiste late Damodar Bantwal commemorated

Mangaluru, Nov 25: “Experienced artistes have preserved the attraction of different genres of arts even now. Commemorating their work is praiseworthy. Their art always remains fresh even after they pass away,” said senior auditor S S Nayak.

He was speaking as the chief guest in the programme held at Mangaluru town hall here on the fifth day of ‘Yakshagana Talamaddale week’ to commemorate Yakshagana artiste late B V Damodar Acharya Bantwal. The programme was held under the aegis of ‘Yakshangana Mangaluru’ and ‘Karnataka Yakshabharathi’ of Puttur. B Balakrishna Acharya Harekala paid homage to the late artiste.

Veteran Yakshagana artiste Agari Raghurama and Bajpe Shaneshwara temple trustee Ananda Poojary lighted the traditional lamp.

Sridhar Aithal felicitated

B V Damodar Acharya memorial award was presented to expert Yakshagana artiste Panambur Sridhar Aithal and felicitated. A Shivananda Karkera congratulated him. K Laxminarayana Rai Harekala read the letter of felicitation. Leelavathi, wife of late Damodar Acharya was also honoured.

Kamaljit Construction managing director Pradeep Kumar Shetty A, N Purushotham Shetty of Yamuna Builders and Durgaprasad Rai Alape, convener of Alike Yaksha Foundation were the guests of honour. Yakshagana scholar Dr M Prabhaker Joshi chaired the programme.

Yakshangana Mangaluru executive president Prof Bhasker Rai Kukkuvalli welcomed the gathering.

Nivedita N Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Shobha Keshava Kannur compered the programme. ‘Radheya’, a Yakshagana play with artiste Jayanth Kumar Thonse in the background was also performed.
