Assembly passes Chalukya Heritage Bill

Belagavi, Nov 23: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed the Chalukya Heritage Area Management Authority Bill, 2017, for conservation of Chalukya’s heritage area of Badami, Ihole and Pattadakallu with all its archaeological remains and natural environment.

The bill is aimed to preserving the cultural identity and to ensure sustainable development of the Chalukaya’s Heritage.

Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree, who tabled the Bill, said it aimed to prevent uncontrolled development of the heritage area and commercial exploitation of the area.

The bill envisaged to execute works as contemplated in the development plan, coordinate activities of the local authorities, take action to protect public property in heritage areas, and encourage research in to the archaeological, historical and environmental values of Chalukya’s heritage. 

Meanwhile, the last date for regularisation of unauthorised construction of dwelling houses on government lands has been extended from January 1, 2012 to January 1, 2015, under the section 94c and 94cc of the Karnatka Land Revenue Act, 1964.

Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa tabled the Karnataka Land Revenue (4th) Amendment Bill, 2017 and it was passed in the Assembly by voice vote.
