Mangaluru, Nov 22: The special tahsildar of Mulky along with officials of the department of mines and geology raided different spots within Mulky revenue division on Monday November 21 evening and confiscated around 200 loads of sand.

Out of this, 80 loads of sand were found from Kemral, 60 from Karnire and 60 from Balkunje. Mulky special tahsildar, Jnanendra Kumar Gangwar, geologist, B K Murthy, revenue inspector, Dileep Rodkar and police personnel participated in the raid.

Police protection was given to the sand confiscated. Geologist, B K Murthy said that steps will be taken as per orders of the higher ups in the department.

One of the raiding staff said that the accused succeeded in escaping even though 200 loads of sand were confiscated. There is suspicion that local Congress and BJP leaders are involved and therefore there is a deliberate attempt to keep their names away from the case. It is said that influential leaders including gram panchayat members are involved in this illegal sand mining operation.
