Udupi: Mahila Congress to hold closing ceremony of Indira Gandhi’s birth centenary on Nov 25

Udupi, Nov 22: Closing ceremony of Indira Gandhi’s birth centenary will be held on November 25 by Udupi district Mahila Congress Committee at Town hall, informed Veronica Cornelio, president Udupi district Mahila Congress Committee.

Addressing media she said, ““Programmes like visit to orphanage and hospital, and interaction with HIV patients were held the past one year. We will be donating a house to a widow from Kota. One woman from each block will be awarded ‘Indira Priyadarshini’ award for their service to the society.”

“The house will be inaugurated by minister Pramod Madhwaraj and hand it over to Jalaja Pana on November 23,” she added.

“Oscar Fernandes, MP Vishnunathan, AICC in-charge J A Bawa, KPCC secretary and other Congress leaders will be present. New president of Udupi district Mahila Congress Committee Geetha Wagle will also take charge. As many as 1,000 women with 1,000 lighted lanterns will take part in a procession from Bhujanga Park to Town Hall. A statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will be installed and will be inaugurated in December,” she concluded.

Veronica thanked media persons for their support during her tenure. Veronica has served as president for last 12 years.
