Kasargod, Nov 22: “Kasargod needs to be identified as a special language island. We have the right to preserve the tradition and culture of the language and obtain special recognition for it,” said Kannada Development Authority president Prof S G Siddaramaiah.

He was speaking in monthly ‘Kannada Chintane’ programme held in the aegis of Kannada Development Authority, Bengaluru in coordination with Apoorva Kalavidaru Kasargod at Kasargod press club auditorium on Tuesday, November 21. He said that attempts will be made so that facilities available to journalists in Karnataka may be extended to journalists in Kasargod. “Kannada is being taught to journalists in Kasargod. The government there will be urged to preserve the existence of Kannada together with Malayalam,” he said.

Kasargod press club president T A Shafi presided. Apoorva Kalavidaru president Umesh Salian delivered the keynote address. Kannada development authority secretary Dr Muraleedhar, assistant deputy commissioner Jayalaxmi, and Press Club secretary Vindo Payam were present.
