Hassan: Mangaluru-Bengaluru sleeper coach charred in fire - passengers safe

Hassan, Nov 22: A private sleeper coach that was moving to Bengaluru from Mangaluru caught fire at after midnight in the outskirts of the town on Tuesday November 21. The bus was completely charred in the flames which engulfed it.

The incident happened near Kanchatahalli village on national highway 75 near here. The bus was carrying over 30 passengers when fire got ignited all of a sudden. The driver noticed the fire first and took immediate steps to evacuate the passengers. Therefore, loss of life and injury were averted.

Personnel of the rural station here visited the spot and undertook investigation. It is thought that technical problems in the engine would have started fire. Arrangements were made to take passengers to Bengaluru by other buses. Loss of luggage and other belongings is yet to be assessed.

    All the private buses provided with additional head lights. The cables being tampered to provide these head lights . Moreover head lights generate tremendous heat and as they close to engine a small short circuit enough to ignite fire. Also these headlights cause complete blindness to the opposite vehicle drivers. This is really unsafe. KSRTC Buses have only company provided headlights not more than four. As per the rules they cannot modify head lights.
    RTO and Police must initiate stringent action against the private operators who violate the rules and safety norms.

    Thanks to Driver and his assistant in the bus for being alert on the event of fire and rescued the passagers... This incident is happening only in A/C bus .. so management should be careful to have some sort of alerting gadget should be inserted in the engine and fuel tank portion and dashboard. So that crew member will get a chance to extinguish the fire at starting stage... let the bus manufacturer and mechanical/electrical engineers think over it and give a possible solution for safe travel...

    This is not the first case of Bus (especially the night ones) catch fire. Why don't the day buses catch fire? I have travelled in this route and Durgamba motors hundreds of times in the last 17-18 years. This clearly looks like a deed of a smoker passenger who could not control his urge . RTO needs to instruct to all night bus operators to ensure fire-resistant material to be used in the upholstery. The curtains mostly made of synthetic material are flying outside the window when the buses are travelling in high speeds. This incident needs to be taken seriously and a detailed investigation has to be carried out on each passenger. Govt has to ensure strict non-smoking regulations for Night Buses. Lives are at risk here !

    Most of these modern buses have hand brakes, most of our drivers are parking on gear. If the hand is not released during the running of the vehicle, it will be a major cause of fire. All the drivers should be educated on this. Public awareness is very important.

    I don’t know which engineering’ u studied my friend it don’t have any cable in brake it’s air brake ...if not relised the brake it wil not cause fire ...it was engine some part may got short or wire got short it’s not brake ...

    Road from Mangalore to Hassan is pathetic and alternative roads are also not planned and am sure those alternative routes which exists will also be in pathetic condition.Dumbest Government just does the things in DUMB way.

    And in the time of January they are going to close the Shiradi Ghat Stretch again.And the repair work and road widening will take another 2 years till then passengers need to suffer travelling in undesignated roads,Which will be pathetic.Upon this they are again planning damage the western ghats stretch which helps in bringing rain.

    Poor planning and Uneducated Ministers & Corrupt Ministers in Karnataka are the main reasons for these kinds of problem.And we Voters are also DUMB fellows.
