Mangaluru: Frivita, Nivita, Jeet Milan to receive Naman Ballok Jesu awards

Mangaluru, Nov 21: Young budding Frivita D’Souza and Nivita Cardoza have been chosen for the ‘NBJ – Amulya Akash Yuva Pratibha Puraskar - 2017’ in sports and art categories respectively, while environmentalist Jeet Milan Roche has been chosen for the ‘Godwin-Sushma Rasquinha Person of the Year -2017’ instituted by Naman Ballok Jesu, Konkanni monthly.

The award ‘Yuva Pratibha Puraskar’ carries Rs 20,000 in cash and the ‘Person of the Year Award’ Rs 30,000 in cash, certificate, memento and shawl. All the three awards will be presented in Carmel Hill here on December 3.


About the awardees:

Frivita D’Souza
Hailing from Gurpur-Kaikamba, Frivita is a budding dramatist who has acted in nearly 13 dramas through Kalakul and in two Konkani films namely ‘Nashibacho Khel’ and ‘Sofiya’. Two dramas namely ‘Aat Foti’ and ‘Osmithay’ have been co-directed by her. She has been recipient of ‘Best Actress Award’ in 2016-17 and ‘Best Drama Writer’ from Kalakul Theatre Repertory. She is currently pursuing MA in economics at Mangalore University. Frivita has been awarded ‘Naman Ballok Jesu and Amulya-Akash Yuva rathiba Kala Award 2017’.

Nivita Cardoza
Hails from the rural place of Belman. A Karate champion, Nivita has gained a name for herself in national and international Karate events. She has bagged 23 gold, 20 silver and 14 bronze medals so far. From 2007-2017 she has participated in 32 both individual and group competitions. She is the student of Mundkur Mulladka Guruprasad Raghu T Shetty Karate School. Presently she is pursuing her studies in computer science. Nivita has been awarded ‘Naman Ballok Jesu and Amulya-Akash Yuva Prathibha Sports Award 2017’.

Jeet Milan Roche
Having fallen in love with nature, Jeet Milan’s mission is to plant trees and to take care of them. In order to create a ‘Green Mangaluru’ he has begun ‘Mangalore Green Brigade’. In and around the city he has planted more than a lac trees single handedly. Not only has he planted greenery, but has also nurtured his work in empty land, cemeteries, unused railway and highway properties, temple roads, dumpyards. He is also working on eco-friendly waste and garbage dumping. 'Godwin-Sushma Rasquinha’ person of the year award has been presented to Jeet Milan Roche.

The ninth anniversary of Naman Ballok Jesu, Konkani monthly will be celebrated on December 3 at 5 pm at Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte. Fr Dr Pius James D’Souza vicar provincial of K G Carmelite Province will preside over the programme and inaugurate the decennial year. Fr Chetan Capuchin editor of Uzvad, Konkani fortnightly, Hemacharya, editor - Daijiworld English weekly, will be the chief guests. ‘NBJ- Amulya Akaash Yuva Pratibha Puraskar- 2017 and NBJ- Godwin-Sushma Rasquinha Family Person of the Year award will be presented on this occasion. NBJ- Akaar Innovations sponsored ‘Prakruti Kalakruti’ prizes will also be distributed on the occasion. A book in Konkani by renowned writer, Herolpius will be released. Christopher D’Souza Ninasamand group will spice up the programme with ‘Katha Kavya Rang’.

‘Naman Ballok Jesu’ monthly is an initiative of Carmelite Fathers, which features Konkani literature, culture through interesting topics. Topics which society does not like to discuss much are brought up for discussion in the magazine. This has brought a lot of awareness among the readers. It also pens literature, art and sport, politics and technology. It recognizes young talent and honors them. It is now stepping into its decennial celebrations.
