Beltangady, Nov 21: In connection with the investigation relating to sale of a vehicle, police personnel from Honnali station in Davanagere district took away an entrepreneur from Noojody within Melantabettu gram panchayat limits near here on Monday November 20 morning. As there was no accurate information about this incident, the rumour that the businessman had been abducted was doing the rounds in the social media and among the people till Monday evening.

Sachin Noojody, a former member of Melantabettu gram panchayat, was the person taken into custody by the police. The police who surrounded his house on Monday had flashed a revolver before taking the man away.

Sachin's wife happens to a range forest officer. The news that Sachin had been kidnapped was doing the rounds in social websites since morning. Later, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, issued clarification that it was not abduction but the police personnel had taken the man away in connection with investigation of a case.

It later transpired that a truck sold by Sachin to a person from Davanagere district had been seized by Honnali police in connection with a case. During verification, the police found out that the chassis number mentioned in the registration certificate did not tally with the actual number appearing on the vehicle. They suspect that the chassis number has been altered. Although notices had been served on Sachin twice to appear for investigation, he had failed to follow these instructions. Therefore the Honnali police came here to take him along, sources said.

Sources also add that the police pointed a revolver as there was resistance for Sachin's arrest.

The Honnali police also chose to inform the district police with some delay as they suspected political interference, it is said.
