New Delhi, Nov 18 (TOI): Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday slammed fellow party leader Shashi Tharoor's criticism of the country's "so called valorous maharajas."

"I think he should study history. I am Jyotiraditya Scindia and I am proud of my past," ANI quoted Scindia as saying.

Tharoor had on Thursday accused India's erstwhile kings of being "less concerned about their honour when the British were trampling all over it," but today going after "a Mumbai filmmaker because their honour is at stake."

"In fact, every single one of these so called valorous maharajas, who today are after a Mumbai filmmaker because their honour is at stake, they were less concerned about their honour when the British were trampling all over it. They scurried to accommodate themselves. So let's face it, there is no question, that we were complicit," he had said.

"I am dismayed that some BJP supporters are claiming I attacked Rajput honour... I spoke about the Maharajahs who made their accommodations with the British. I have never made a communal comment in my life," he tweeted.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' has been the matter of controversy for allegedly distorting history and hurting the Rajput community's sentiments, with Bhansali, the film's actors and crew facing threats of violence and physical harm from members of the Rajput Karni Sena.
