Puttur, Nov 17: A police team from the town police station here raided a spot where cattle were being illegally loaded into vehicle on Thursday November 16 morning. The incident occurred in Kedila village near here.

Sub-inspector of the town police station here, Ajay Kumar, got reliable information that an effort was being made at Sattikallu in Kedila village to load vehicles illegally into vehicles for being transported elsewhere. He immediately led a police team and reached the spot at around 4 am. When the police raided the spot, the accused tried to attack the police team, it is learnt. When the police fired in the air, the accused escaped under the cover of darkness, police said.

The raid was conducted under the guidance of town station inspector, Mahesh Prasad. The accused, who perhaps did not realize that the raiding party comprised of police personnel, suddenly prepared to attack the personnel with cudgels in hand. When the police fired in the air, they retreated and fled from the spot, Mahesh Prasad stated.

Four persons were involved with the incident and police personnel are conducting investigation to identify them. 12 cattle which had been put together for being loaded into pick up truck were taken into possession by the police. It is suspected that these animals were planned to be taken to Mangaluru. Investigation is continuing.
