Udupi: Revenue, geology dept seize 645 metric tons of illegal sand deposit

Udupi, Nov 17: In a joint operation, officials from the revenue and geology department, tahsildar and police officers raided Uppoor, Havanje and near Vijay bank, KG road in the early hours of Thursday, November 16 and seized illegally sand deposit worth lacs of rupees.

A case has been registered at Brahmavar police station by geologist Dr H S Mahadeshvar against the same.

With regard to the case, different complaints have been lodged against three individuals namely Mahimoon, Ansar Ahmed and Anand Marakala.

Two cases have been registered at Brahmavara police station, under Cr No 322/17, U/S 379IPC, 4, 4 (1A), 21 MMDR ACT 1957, US 3(1), 42(1),43(2) 44 KMMCR 1994 against accused Mahimoon and Ansar Ahmed. The detained sand quantity is estimated at 292 tons which is valued at Rs 1,62,936.

Another case under Cr No 321/17, U/S 379 IPC, 4, 4(1A), 21 MMDR ACT 1957, US 3(1), 42(1), 43(2)44 KMMCR 1994 has been lodged.

Accused Anand Marakal had deposited the alleged illegal sand at Vijaya Bank KG road in Havanje village. The total seized sand is 90 metric tons worth Rs 50,220.

The third case has been registered against Ansar Ahmed. The raid took place at KG road, Havanje village. The cases have been lodge under Cr NO 320/17, U/S 379 IPC, 4, 4(1A),21 MMDR ACT 1957, U/S 3(1),42(1), 43(2) 44 KMMCR 1994.

The total seized sand is 645 metric tons, worth Rs 3,59,910.

The joint operation was conducted by IAS Poovitha, in-charge tahasildar, Brahmavara, police inspector Sampath and Raghavendra RPI staff of DCIB and DAR.
