Mangaluru: J R Lobo announces formation of Christian Development Board

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Nov 16: Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, who is also the chairman of the legislative committee for backward classes and minorities, on Thursday November 16 announced the formation of the Christian Development Board.

"The Karnataka Christian Development Committee has decided to form a Christian Development Board. The committee held a meeting chaired by its president and Karnataka state minister K J George in Bengaluru on November 10. It was unanimously agreed in the meeting to establish a Christian Development Board for the all-round development of the Christian community in Karnataka," said MLA J R Lobo, who is also the vice-president of the Christian Development Committee.

"The Karnataka state government had formed the Christian Development Committee for the welfare of all the Christians in the state. The government provided Rs 75 crore in the year 2013-14, Rs 100 crore in 2014-15, Rs 125 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 175 crore during 2016-17 for the purpose. The funds were utilized completely for repairs and development of churches and prayer centres, development of basic facilities in cemeteries, construction of community halls, towards orphanages, old age homes, rehabilitation homes for the differently-abled and assistance for postgraduate and higher education in foreign countries," Lobo said.

"The committee has decided to provide funds for basic necessities in health centres and small hospitals. The committee has fixed limits for decisions, approvals and implementation. The committee does not have staff of its own. Therefore the committee is facing constraints to conduct more development especially to release funds on time for approved projects. Thus, the committee decided in its recent meeting to form a Christian Development Board and forwarded the decision to the chief minister.

"The Archbishop too has submitted an appeal to the chief minister when he met him in Bengaluru recently and urged the CM to form the Christian Development Board," he added.

After effects of Namma Palu Namma Hakku movement headed by Harry D'Souza with support of Christian leaders like Ronald Colaco, Dilraj, Rev. Fr. Edward, Arun Fernandes, Perico, leaders from all parties like BJP and JDS, Bishops of other dioceses, Bishops and Pastors of all denominations. The Congress distanced themselves from the movement, but the movement went ahead and was able to gather and unite Christians on a common platform to fight for a common cause.
The Congress Christian leaders except for Shri J. R. Lobo did everything they could to derail the formation of the Christian Development Board. This is a slap on their faces. They must have got wind that the BJP was including the formation of the Christian Development Board on their forthcoming election manifesto. Hence the hurried move from Congress . The present Christian Development Committee also was a gift of the BJP govt to Christians, thanks to the efforts of Ronald Colaco, IFKCA, FKCA and other leading organizations who were successful in persuading the then CM BSY.
Congress has always taken Christians for granted over the past 70 years. Only particular Minorities have been given preference, funds, postings and support.
A lesson well learnt for the Congress not to distance and discriminate Christians. We too are kingmakers and if Christians are capable of making MLA's and MP's, then we are capable of throwing them out too. Don't take Christian minorities for granted anymore.
Thanks to JR for the initiative and announcement of the CDB. We acknowledge and whole heartedly support the move.

    All is good .
But why they have money for post graduate and higher education in foreign country.
If they were so rich to afford foreign education let them pay from their pockets.
Why money meant for upliftment of christian s wasted like this.

Pl use this fund money for actual development of Christians in karnataka.
Don't spend it for people who are already rich.
Amazed that you spent money for foreign education of some people.
