Congress will restructure GST if voted to power: Rahul Gandhi

Daijiworld Media Network

Gandhinagar, Nov 11: Taking credit for the Central government slashing tax rate from 28 percent to 18 percent, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that structural changes are needed in the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“It was due to the pressure from Congress that BJP had to slash the tax rate. However, Congress won’t stop here. India doesn't want five different types of taxes, we want one,” he asserted while addressing a rally in Gujarat.

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi while interacting with traders in Surat, assured that Congress will reassess and restructure the Goods and Service Tax (GST), if voted to power in the 2019 general elections.

He accused the Centre for making the making the uniform tax reform “complex” and said that Congress was against its implementation since the beginning and had cautioned the government. Modi too has realized his mistake and is unnecessarily making Congress a part of it, he alleged.

On his fourth visit to poll-bound Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi began his tour of north Gujarat by praying at the revered Akshardham temple, an unscheduled change in his plan, and visited the Patidar-dominated villages of the region.

He was warmly welcomed in the Patidar-dominated village of Majra with slogans of 'Jay Sardar' on his arrival. Gandhi sported a 'Patidar' cap during his visit to the village.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president, who arrived here on Saturday morning on a three-day visit, went on his scheduled visits of Chiloda and other places. On his way to Sabarkantha district, he stopped at a roadside 'dhaba' where he enjoyed the traditional dishes of Gujarat, like 'fafda' and 'gota'.

People turned up in huge numbers to have a look at the Gandhi scion.

In his corner meting at Chiloda, Gandhi emphasized on the role of women in election.

He meant to say 2029 may be. Change the leadership now and there is a chance for Congress in 2019. Don't understand the logic behind him leading the party when from 2014 general elections, he is leading the party and campaign and there is drastic downfall in votes.

Earlier when there was no GST, traders use to sell their products as MRP which included actual product/service price along with several other taxes which were hidden from the customers. All that was visible to customer was MRP, which customers purchased without any complain.

After GST got implemented, irrespective of other taxes were abolished, these traders are cheating the customers by adding GST value upon the earlier MRP rate which had included previous tax, instead of adding GST to their actual product/service rate, thats the reason we find all the prices of the products turn high.

The other drawback of GST is, it has been included even for education. For Eg: If I have to write any Cisco Exam, such as CCIE, the international fixed charges for the LAB exam is $1500. So before GST it was the same $1600, but after GST a 18% tax slab has been introduced which these prometric or study centers add with to fixed exam fees, which costs extra $288, which will be almost 20000 INR. So these extra amount for a student to pursue his/her education is not a burden??? GST should have been exempted for Education & Food sector.

Government has failed to analyze the pros and cons of GST and didn't implement it in a strategical and structural form. They blindly implemented it as a TRAIL & ERROR method.

Does Pappu understand GST? Does he know consequences of having one slab of 18%? Pappu wants to have one slab of 18% which menas now items under 0, 5 and 12 percent would be increased to 18 bracket. Pappu has absolutely failed in GST matter.

He is only trying to appease and distract voters. We need serious person to be PM not who is only interested in becoming PM.
