Bengaluru: Passenger alleges sexual harassment, rape threat by Air Asia employees

Bengaluru, Nov 11 (Zee News): A 28-year-old woman on Friday was allegedly molested by three male Air Asia staffers in Bengaluru airport.

On November 3, the woman was travelling from Ranchi to Bengaluru when the incident took place. She has lodged an FIR against the Air Asia staff for misbehaviour and sexual harassment.

She said she had complained about the unhygienic condition of the aircraft's washroom after which the Air Asia staff misbehaved with her and threatened to deboard her.

"I found toilet of the aircraft dirty and complained. The cabin steward scolded and touched me inappropriately. He also threatened to deboard me. Air Asia staff at Hyderabad supported him," the victim said.

"He also threatened to kick me out of the flight. My co-passengers supported me but the AirAsia staff at Hyderabad took his side. The captain asked me if I am going to shut my mouth for the next 1-hour flight. They even humiliated me before the police," she continued.

According to the victim, the alleged staff members harassed her onboard as well as on the Bengaluru airport runway.

The woman also claimed that a ground staffer at Bengaluru airport threatened her with rape.

"When I reached Bengaluru airport, one of the ground staff asked me to apologize to the Captain and cabin steward otherwise they will hand me over to the cops. Three of them were making a gang surrounding me and said you don't know who we are. We will take you outside and show you what we are. It was kind of a rape threat. I don't know who said it but I heard someone saying that we will rape you," she said.

Meanwhile, the Airline issued a statement over the issue and said they followed the standard operating procedures for disruptive passengers.

"The passenger resorted to verbal abuse against the senior cabin crew. The senior cabin crew then managed to calm the passenger down and resumed his duties. However, the passenger continued to be abusive," it said.

The incident comes days after the ground staff of IndiGo Airlines were caught on camera assaulting a senior citizen on the tarmac of Delhi Airport.

Thank God I didnt comeacross such unrude airstaff. Quite possible now lowclass airlines offer too not a highclass service.but they are obliged to go through a customer problems and attend to solve it .but not threaten in return.I dont think a air passenger complain simply so.Board toilets are many times not clean I know.It is because only two toilets for so many people of lowcost passengers are not enough.waiting for long hours to get in,and can also get dirty when using wrong, not knowing .Children too use it not optimal.Even men use it (Sorry) not properly.why we should blame a particular part of indias people?Others also are not better.many times I found too dirty.but cant help.change over to otherone.sometimes Boardstaff come and try to help when told. Here I found it strange .were they too had a long day and wanted their frust on passenger? But beginning from capitain and staff were against this lady makes me to think.a thourough investigation and a action to the accused must be taken.I am sure staffs will be united in case of problems.

Rape has becoming very loosely used word by women nowadays....accusation of rape has become a 'Joke' now in India...

In my opinion if any woman charges any man of rape...if accusation is not proved she should be prosecuted for filing false charges...if charges are proved man should be given life sentence without provision of parole...so this silly charges are avoided...

In the last few weeks there are multiple such incidents from Indian private airlines.
    1. In the first incident IndiGo airlines has been accused of refusing a female passenger(who happens to be an ex IndiGo employee and a family member of a current employee)to board a flight because her skirt above knee was deemed to be inappropriate by airlines staff.
    2. Two pilots of the IndiGo flight carrying West Bengal CM Banerjee, and four others from Air India and SpiceJet who had reported “low fuel” while hovering in Kolkata skies. The regulator had ordered an inquiry to find out how three flights at the same time could fly low on fuel into Kolkata when the norms mandate them to carry enough fuel to enable hovering for 30-40 minutes as well as to carry it to the nearest diversion airport, which in this case was Bhubaneshwar.
    3. IndiGo airlines has accused singer Aditya Narayan of using foul languages against its staff while causing ruckus at the Raipur airport in Chhattisgarh. According to IndiGo, the singer began to allegedly use expletives against its ground staff after he was asked to pay Rs 13,000 as excess baggage charge.
    4. A pilot of IndiGo an airline known for being largely on time was caught blaming the ATC for a delay in take-off of the Chennai-Madurai flight 6E-859 last week was delayed by 40min which was conveyed to the passengers by text message. But the pilot later announced that the flight had been further delayed “because the ATC was not clearing the aircraft for departure,”.
    5. Ace Indian shuttler olympian silver medalist r PV Sindhu has slammed IndiGo airline staff for misbehaving with her while boarding a flight.
6 . IndiGo staff brutally beat up Vinay Katiyal at Delhi airport, airlines issues apology.
These back to back incidents shows that PM Modi's Civil aviation minister is napping while passengers are suffering despite paying multiple taxes. His junior minister Jayant Sinha is scrambling to come out of 'paradise papers'.

Aircraft washrooms are kept hygienically to the best of standards as prescribed. But, many of the low budget or first time travellers especially from asian region may not know how to use & flush an airplane toilet & also what not to dump into the airplane toilet. These type of cases are frequently reported on international flights from India also occasionally as toilets get clogged. Some time back there was an air india flight to US whose washroom got blocked mid air & travellers couldn't use washroom till touch down. The lady may not be aware that inflight crew is not there to clean & maintain flight toilets. It is done when the plane is grounded at airports by airport cleaning staff.

Main issue is peoples knowledge about its usage & keeping it clean by wiping with tissues for next user. But, how many Indians are bothered about that ?

Further you get the service for what you pay for. When you travel budget airline you are at mercy of fellow budget travellers for hygiene or manners etc.

Security staff & captain must have followed prescribed protocol. Thorough investigation may reveal truth behind these claims. These days it has become a fashion to complain mainly when your ego is busted in public. CCTV cameras at corner of the airport may expose few claims of passenger as to whether it is true or not. WhatsApp & FB's cheap publicity to get fake likes may worsen situation even further.

I travel daily....but i never came across such incidents in my lifetime, especially Air Hostesses are very kind to me always... But i don't like male Air Hostess, they are very rude.

Main reason for all these incidents are Watsapp & Facebook, nobody sleeps properly after work, whenever they come across something they get angry & shout.

Since airfare is cheap now,you find a lot of these cheap fellows in flights, always arguing for silly things and trying to get attention.
Just go on youtube and see all the fights at banks, airports.Majority are from north indian places.

In my 22 years of flying ..domestic or international ..I never came across Airlines ..ground ..inflight staff who have behaved rudely.I find them always doing their best and wanting to please the passengers.
Very often, I see that passengers are rude and are at fault ..They do not heed to security requirements or want to flout the rules and regulations to show their ego or celebrity status .

I was made to remove my shoes in mumbai Air ports ..many times for security check ..But I do not have any issues going through such checks ..as it's done for the safety of all travellers and its bei
ng done as per allowed rules and regulation.

But these days due to the advent of low cost airlines ..I find low class people flying ..By "Low class" I mean only people with low class attitude often trying to gain publicity or attention.
