Mangaluru, Nov 7: MLA J R Lobo along with MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated National Vendor Development Programme and investors meet here at Town Hall on Tuesday, November 7.

Addressing the gathering, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "Dakshina Kannada and Udupi is a good business centre where there is scope for the investors. We have industries such as MRPL and SEZ and besides having all types of transportation including port, railway, airport and highway. After Narendra Modi became the prime minister, he introduced schemes such as Make in India and Skill Development to create job opportunities for youth and also to provide loans to start their business through Mudra scheme. I had opposed the establishment SEZ earlier due to its impact to environment, agriculture and also for not providing jobs for the locals. But these industries made good impact economically and made tie-ups with other nations, which was positive for us.”

“The central government along with the state government has proposed a plastic park at Ganjimata and also an IT park at Konaje,” he added.

MLA J R Lobo said, "People in Mangaluru have skills. Investors would love to come to Mangaluru. But one of the main problems is documentation process which is quite tedious. Going through lot of rules and regulations has become a nightmare for investors. This issue needs to be discussed at the earliest. There was a lot of opposition for SEZ as it harms agriculture and environment, but it does not mean that industries should not come up. If we need small scale industries, we also need large scale industries to come up.”

Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, "Mangaluru will become a ‘Smart City’ and also one of the best cities to live. Hence, industries have a prominent role to play. We all know that Phalguni river is contaminated and several voices raised against this pointing out at the industries. Industries should keep in mind and show concern towards the protection of environment. Several industries are coming up in the district, but job opportunities for locals are very less. These things should be sorted out and more priority should be given for local people whenever there are jobs here.”

Earlier MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated a industrial exhibition at the mini hall at Town Hall.

S N Rangaprasad, director, MSME, C K Gopal, general manager, Corporation Bank, BH Khader, Gokuldas Nayak, K Socrates and others were present.
