Doha, Nov 2: After successful years in organizing May Queen Ball and other community events in Qatar, Goan Welfare Association (GWA), one of Qatar’s leading and most notable community associations, all set to celebrate World Goa Day 2017 with traditional pomp and splendour on November 17 at the Al Riyadh Hall, Mercure Grand Hotel from 5 pm onwards.
The Goan Welfare Association (GWA) has been the face and voice of Goans living in the tiny oil-rich country of Qatar for the last 17 years. Ably led by inimitable Simon D’Silva, since inception, the association has rendered yeoman’s service in nurturing Goan culture and spirit among the large number of Goan expatriates.
“The basic idea is to promote Goem, Goenkar Goenkarponn through music and language. It will display the real essence and identity of Goa,” says GWA president Simon D'Silva.
Johnny Araujo, Bushka D'Souza
The star attraction will be Johnny B Gud (Araujo) with Bushka D'Souza, a musical duo, one of the best in Goa who carry a rich history together for seven years with old and new Konkani music to win the hearts of Goan music lovers. Both have travelled most parts of India along with Africa, UK, Kuwait, Dubai and other places and have produced two Konkani pop CD's which created a big buzz around Goa and abroad.
Manuxin Fernandes
Manuxin Fernandes, a man with golden voice, will travel from Dubai to entertain Doha folks. He has been entertaining audiences for many years and also recipient of many awards and accolades.
Carmo Santos
Carmo Santos, man behind Kuwait's ‘Airlift’ and chairman of Goan Cultural Centre, Kuwait has consented to be the chief guest and Agnello Fernandes, vice-president of Gulf Custody Investment Group, Kuwait will be the guest of honour.
Gasper Crasto
Kuwait based Gasper Crasto, a former Salgaocar and Goa footballer will compere the event. Gasper is a freelance journalist and demonstrates his wit and humour at many Goan events. Gasper's presence as a compere was greatly noticed at the Global Goans Convention and the first Konkani Film Festival held in Kuwait. Gasper is also an outstanding Konkani singer and composer. He is a regular feature in almost every Konkani show or drama organised by the Goan Diaspora in Kuwait. Normally, Gasper sings along with his wife Esparansa Barretto.
Agnello Fernandes
In addition, local talents will perform with music provided by Agnelo Rodrigues. DJ Glorio will present scintillating music for the guests.
