Mangaluru: Ullal police arrest gang of five highway robbers, seize weapons

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 22: The Ullal police on Sunday October 22 arrested a gang of five who were robbing people commuting on national highway 66, especially those coming from Kerala towards Mangaluru or those travelling from Mangaluru International Airport, and women.

The accused arrested are Ravikumar (24), Khaleel K alias Kallu (27), Rajesh K (30), Azeem alias Mohammed Azeem (23) and Jabeer Abbas alias Jabeer (24). While Ravikumar is a resident of Puttur, the other four are from Manjeshwar, Kasargod.

Based on credible information that the gang of criminals had made all preparations to loot commuters passing through the highway at night, especially women, Ullal police led by inspector Gopikrishna K R and sub-inspector Rajendra B, with the help of anti-rowdy squad of Mangaluru sub-division arrested the accused and seized weapons from them.

The weapons include machetes, rods, chilli powder and daggers. The police also confiscated a Maruti Swift car from the accused.

Among the arrested persons, Rajesh and Khaleel along with one Javed had on October 19 allegedly made a murderous attack on a person named Prajwal in Manjeshwar.

Ravikumar is an accused in four cases registered in Puttur, Manjeshwar and Barke police stations. The cases relate to ganja peddling, theft and assault.

Khaleel faces three cases registered in Kavoor police station. Rajesh too is wanted in three cases.

The police have also learnt that the accused were planning to smugge in ganja from Kerala too.

They were later produced in court and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.

The Ullal police have registered a case under Arms Act and sections 402 of the IPC.

    Getting bail is very easy, Our law is only strict on smaller offence than bigger ones that posses greater threat to human belongings and human life.

    Please break their legs before they get out on bail. There are many cases in Bangalore where police are shooting at the culprits saying they have attacked police. Looks like police has got some freedom now under new home minister. Whoever may be the next HM, hope they will give freedom to shoot above waist also on these criminals.

    Haa dekhliya. Abh kya karoo?

    Why don't you join the police force as an expert facial recognition consultant? Since you can identify criminal intent just by looking at someone's face, you could help the society by preventing it altogether rather than our police reacting to a crime.

    Crimes like these are on the increase. However we have now an extremely good Police Force and it is extremely difficult for any one to escape their attention.

    I join several other in congratulating inspector Gopikrishna K R and sub-inspector Rajendra B,

    If I ask you a generic question as to whether India should be governed by the rule of law, I am sure your answer would be in the affirmative 100% of the time. However, when your answer to the same question is mirrored against the facts and circumstances of any one particular case (like the current highway robbery one), you are prepared to conveniently junk that into North Sea.

    Do you even realise the absurdity of your comment when you say that “…such rowdys should be thrown in jail without case…..”? You are prepared to give the police an unfettered power to incarcerate anyone they think is a rowdy without any checks and balances? Then, why do we need an independent judiciary?

    Maybe we should discard the whole criminal justice system and leave it to the judgement of the police:
    (a) Who never take bribes;
    (b) Who never plant evidences;
    (c) Who never torture poor / marginalised people;
    (d) Who never shy away from acting on complaints against rich and the powerful;
    (e) Who never eliminate people in cold blood and pass it off as “encounter”;
    (f) Etc. etc. etc (I think you are getting the picture here)

    If religious heads could talk to people and make them good guys, surely:
    - Mexico and Columbia would have been the two most peaceful country in the world;
    - Italians would have never heard of the word “mafia”;
    - We would have never heard of child abuse / exploitation by the Catholic church across the world;
    - ISIS and Al Qaeda would have been identified as messenger of peace organisations;
    - VHP and BD would have been distributing roses to couples of valentine’s day.
    Of course, there are exceptions in individual cases where guidance by religious heads have worked. But by and large those steps are an absolute failure in most of the cases.

    Do you know the one simple mathematical equation :- Negative + Negative is still a negative. Two wrongs does not make one right.

    Highway robbery is wrong and so is police torture. There is a very good reason as to why police do not judicial powers in our constitutional scheme of things.

    You seem to tactically approve police torture.
    What about custodial death? Do you think police should have the judicial power to kill people in custody? Because custodial death is an extension of custodial torture.
    Or what about denial of medical aid to an inmate who suffers a heart attack?
    Or what about failure to prevent suicide by an inmate?

    In this case no cast politics. ....Always somebody 's comments ends with their opposite religion. Here in this case persons from both community did a hasty work. I must appreciate Ullal police who did a wonderful job. If any political intervention occur to disrupt police ,it's a clearcut picture that politicians having cuts from these robbers. Police must work autonomous ,then only we can expect reduced crime rate.but kurtas and topis won't allow them.
