Aires to move court in defence of Wagh’s poem

Ponda/Panaji, Oct 20 (TOI): Social activist Aires Rodrigues said that he would move court seeking the quashing of the FIR filed against former MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh by the women's NGO 'Bailancho Ekvott' for the "abusive content" in his controversial book of Konkani poems, 'Sudhir Sukt'. Ponda police are yet to commence investigation into the case.

"We are busy with bandobast duty, Narkasur competition and the FIFA U-17 world cup matches. Will commence our inquiry in a few days", police inspector in charge of Ponda police station, Sudesh Naik told TOI. He said that they will be issuing call letters to record statements with the regard to the contents of the book.

Based on a complaint filed the convenor, Bailancho Ekvott, Auda Viegas, Ponda police on Tuesday registered the FIR against the ailing Wagh and his publisher Apurbhai Prakashan.

Rodrigues questioned the motives of the police in registering the FIR against Wagh in a hurry.

The anthology, Rodrigues said, has to be read as a whole and certain verses cannot be selectively read out of context.
