Mangaluru, Oct 19: District Congress president Harish Kumar on Thursday October 19 demanded the resignation of district BJP president Sanjeev Mathandoor for allegedly making derogatory comments against minister Ramanath Rai at Vittal.
.
Addressing a press meet here, Harish Kumar said, "BJP has always made a big deal about following culture and tradition, being a district president of a party it is wrong on his part to comment on a responsible minister like Ramanath Rai. Sanjeev Mathandoor should apologize and take back his words within a week or else we will stage a protest.

Karnataka state fishermen Congress president U R Sabhapathi said, "In order to strengthen the party Rahul Gandhi has formed the All India Fishermen Congress, and a committee has been formed for the same. Fishing as an occupation is not limited to any caste, it includes people from all communities. There are nearly 23 lac people involved in this occupation, but no one is in any ministry or in the parliament, so we urge to make a few of them parliament members. We also demand a national fisheries policy.

"There is no separate portfolio for fisheries sector and it has been merged with the agricultural sector due to which the fisheries sector has been sidelined. We demand a separate fisheries portfolio at the centre," he added.

Rahul Gandhi to visit Kumta and Chikkamagaluru

On November 19, a fishermen convention will be organised in Kumta in which nearly 60,000 fishermen are expected to take part."

Congress leaders Ibrahim Kodijal, Naveen D'Souza, Santhosh Kumar Shetty and others were present.
