Mangaluru, Oct 18: "The state government allocates a specific amount in its budget for minorities, keeping their upliftment in mind. Among them, Christians do not get sufficient funds and other facilities as we are a minority among minorities," said Harry D'Souza, state convenor of Karnataka Christian Social Welfare Association.

He was addressing the media here on Tuesday, October 17 at Milagres Church hall here.

"We have been keeping silent for many years without showing any reaction to this. Now, the time has come that we raise our voices against discrimination. On Sunday, November 5, we will hold a convention here under the slogan 'Our Share, Our right'," he said.

"The minority department has more than eight communities to cater to. Among them, the budget amount goes only to one or two. The department does not give any importance to the Christians in Karnataka. As per records, around 12 lac Tamil-speaking, 10 lac Malayalam, 10 lac Telugu, and 10 lac Kannada and Konkani-speaking Christians live in the state. But the minority department does not bother about their welfare and development. If this continues, the community will not see any development in the coming years" he informed.

"The BJP government started Karnataka Christian Development Board and sanctioned Rs 50 lac for it. Now, the Congress government has allocated Rs 175 crore. The money goes towards the repair of buildings and new constructions. We demand an inspection for the amount released to the minority community, and also demand a separate Christian Corporation with an allocated fund of Rs 850 crore from the budget of Rs 2,750 crore set aside for minorities. As per law, Christians and Muslims come under category 1, group B. But the system includes us in category 3B. Due to this, we have been losing facilities and welfare schemes by the government,” he said.

"State government should take steps to appoint a commission to hold a census of Christians, and do a study on issues faced by them in the state," he concluded.

Joylus D'Souza, president of BJP Minority Morcha, youth wing said, "It is necessary to get our share from the government. It is our right to ask for our share. The minority department is not just for one or two communities. It should treat everyone equally and give importance to all. The convention is held to voice our problems to the government and show our strength. It will be the biggest convention in the history of Mangalurean Christians."

Jaya Raj, vice president KCSWA, Anil Lobo, president Catholic Sabha central council, Deepak D'Souza, and Gladwin were present.

Christians are the most civilized, proud, educated, joyous and prosperous community in coastal belt of Karnataka. They live their lives to the full extent by sharing and caring. It is a shame to ask for handout from the government on the basis of minority and backward status. Most Christians take pride and pleasure in giving and not in receiving.

Just a publicity stunt and vote bank politics. Also, these crooks didnot voice their opinion on Kavya death case. Only poor Mr. Rozario was raising his voice for Kavya.

Minorities funds goes half in the pockets of majority under minority and the rest eaten by corrupt bodies. Name sake funds were allcoated just for vote bank. Christians got nothing and will not get anything. We are rejected in govt jobs and other positions. We are survived with hard works of ours working in field and other self employment. Govt has done nothing for our community except we Christians done great contributions to India in all sectors and all communities without religious bias .that is why we are true Beleivers of christ. Just give even though we have little. Christians have blessed tremendously in the world and we will be the successful people around the world. Minority funds goes to only certain. Community who is good in grabbing and ChristIans left nothing. We have fee great leaders but useless to serve our community except vote bank politics.

Christians are a religious minority community. Koragas, Harijans and the like are deprived of opportunities because of their backwardness, lack of education, equal rights and so many other
insane prejudicial tendencies. Christians are progressive and educated. I am ashamed that we demand
    handouts!
Christian boys and girls ambitious and hard working. They're not afraid to go to places such as Africa, America, Australia, Canada, Europe and other remote places. They earn and support families. Joylus
and the gang must be ashamed to demand handout - only beggars get handouts!
A poor Christian doesn't have to demand from the govt. - when its that bad go to the nearest church or
a convent - they will feed and may even employ YOU.
Please don't follow BJP ROUTE - talk to your Representatives Lobo and Ivan- this ugly publicity is REPULSIVE and DEGRADING to a PROUD MINORITY RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY>

Please don't give lecture about Christian's here, we demand our share from Minority fund which has been given to other Community depriving Christians of their rights.

Or else make everyone as equal, abolish all the Quota ,Reservation system once for all.

Your logic is like Christians should work hard, pay tax, so that others can enjoy. Right? If Christians face problems they should go to Church or Convent for help?
What type of logic is this?

If this is the logic, then why we need a government at first place?

When others are utilising our funds, why should we keep quiet?

Christians need seperate board with their share from Minority welfare fund.
BJP did actually a good job by creating new board for the Community.
Christians doesn't make use of these funds means you can't give it for others. There are plenty of Christian poor people but there is no proper guidance. Allocate the funds by making a seperate board so that Christians can utilize these funds at any time.
Provide funds only for Education, Medical purpose, not for renovating Community halls, Churches or for any other reason.
If you have Education, if you are intelligent you can do, achieve anything.
I would like to request the government to do a audit on the allocated funds, so that the Tax payer money doesn't go to anybody's pocket.
There are complaints everywhere that only Christian students scholarship applications were getting rejected.
I request the concerned to look into the matter seriously.

Christians are not provided minority fund ....No proper information for the needy person. .. Yes this is the scenario since several years. Minority fund is used for renovating old buildings . We Christians must use this fund for those candidates who can excel higher education but can't afford because of poverty. Christian IAS, IFS officers, pilots and scientists must come by utilising this funds. I observed one more thing, BRAHMIN COMMUNITY, without using reservation, without government fund , excel in top rank in every field. We must learn from them.

When the government has reserved funds for minority why shouldn't we claim? The majorities among minorities are enjoying the funds where as other communities are sleeping. Here and there we hear about scholarships and church renovations that's all? Most of our student scholarships are rejected? What is the reason? We need to think over and fight for our right when government has reserved funds for minority. Otherwise reserve as per economic background. Till that lets claim our rights. If you feel that Christian community too should get what they deserve let's all unitedly claim our rights.

It's a political game. To be successful in life, never ever expect anything without working for it.

Why they are silent on church attacks and astocrities on christians? By mentioning "We" I didnot include you. I included like minded christians who come up in life by their hardwork and sacrifices and I salute those who don't beg for freebies. So don't worry Kiran. I have not included people like you. In a democracy everyone is equal whether he is a hindu/muslim or a christian. Reservation and grants are needed for those who are very poor whether he is a hindu/muslim or a christian. I am against religion based quota. What many of our church authorities are doing? Demolishing old churches and building new churches even though the old churches are good enough to hold service. Is this not waste of money? Instead we can use the same money for upliftment of our poor brethren. There are only a few churches which really work for upliftment of people irrespective of religion.

This is what we demand from many years, make separate board or don't create any distinction at all. Make one country one law one rule.

Present situation in Mangalore Minority office (KMDC) like it belongs to only one Community. Nobody listens to Christians there.... Also that office has been shifted to Pandeshwar from Urwa Store purposefully to create problems for other communities.

Many of my friends visited the office there but returned with nothing by seeing the crowd there....
So i request the government to make seperate boards for different minorities and allocate the funds accordingly....

most majorities are still struggling for life having high risk occupations like farming! ..no government is supporting farmers, who are real minorities as far as economic condition of one's life is concerned!

Reservation and financial help should be based on low income family only. If any adult in the family is drunkard or gambler, In such cases it is still possible to pay money for children education and to support other members especially women and aged members through some definite system. Few people misusing funds in the name of majority / minority / backward is not acceptable. If a Brahmana is poor, he should get all possible financial help from government including engineering / medical seat on reservation.
