Bantwal, Oct 17: The government has affected a major re-haul in the police department by shifting sub-inspectors (SI) of three police stations in the taluk. The SI of the town station here has been transferred to the office of the deputy superintendent of police at Mangaluru. SI (crime) of the town station, Gangadharappa, has been transferred to the Beltangady traffic police station that is being newly set up. Rural SI Umesh, has been transferred to Mangaluru district crime intelligence bureau. Traffic police station sub-inspector, Chandrashekharaiah, has been transferred to DSA Mangaluru.

Sullia SI, Chandrashekhar, will come in place of the vacancy created in the town station's crime department. Prasanna has been transferred to the rural police station. Yallappa has been brought in to traffic police station.

The surprising measure of the government in changing sub-inspectors of the town, rural and traffic stations and bringing new faces in their place, has come as a shock to the taluk, which is recovering from communal clashes that had disturbed normal life for long.

The people believe that the government has chosen police force that is able to handle the heat of the coming election, protests over sand mafia, and communal clashes as also political upheavals in the taluk. The fact that young blood is being infused into the police force at B C Road, which is often mired in pressure and confusion, has given a newfound confidence about them in the people. They wish that the new team will work to instill courage among the people and work in a justifiable way by ensuring that the trust reposed on them by the people is not lost.

Top police officers who had recently visited the taluk in the backdrop of communal clashes, had undertaken major surgery. District superintendent of police, Bhushan G Boorase, was among the first to leave. DySP here, Raveesh, circle inspector here, Manjaiah, and western range inspector general of police, Harishekaran, had been transferred by the government.
