Mangaluru: Protesters float paper boats, 'fish' in pothole-filled road at Kankanady

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Oct 17: Public forum MCC Civic Group and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a unique protest by floating paper boats in water-filled potholes here at Kankanady Market Road on Tuesday, October 17. The protesters were seen dressed like fishermen fishing in the potholes.

Social activist Gerald Towers said, "MCC has failed in maintaining the roads. Even after frequent demands, there is no response from the officials. Potholes here look dangerous and have even claimed lives. Rainwater filled in the potholes is splashed on pedestrians by speeding vehicles."

Dilapidated roads across Mangaluru have been a main concern for pedestrians and motorists. Raods at Padil, Bendorewell, Jyothi, and Kankanady have large crater like potholes. While driver’s errors such as speeding, distracted driving and drunk driving are among the leading causes of automobile accidents in Mangaluru, dangerous road conditions are also a significant contributor. Potholes have been claiming lives every now and then for a while now in the state.

Dangerous road conditions may be the result of natural events, such as tropical rains and flooding that make driving unsafe. Dangerous conditions can also arise from the poor physical condition of a road and its surroundings. Rain this time in Mangaluru is a rare sight. Even a slight drizzle can throw traffic out of gear and force pedestrians to wade through sludge and sewage. Water-logging is a common sight.

Voices have been raised all over regarding potholes and demanding repair of roads, but so far everything has gone in vain. Recently, rickshaw drivers too staged protest, but no measures have been taken. Even students of Bertrand School at Baikampady set an example by repairing the road opposite their school which posed danger. While appreciating the concern of the students, NHAI officials’ apathy needs to be deplored.

The depth of the potholes on the city roads is considerable, and the stretch is horrible when it rains and cannot even avoid the unevenness of the road as the vehicular movement is restricted on busy roads. Also, it poses danger to motorist during after the evening hours due to fading natural light and lack of street lights.

Last time you said swach Bharath. Where is now swach Bharath. Do you think that if you take broom and take some photos on roads then India will clean. Never. We want real swach Bharath i.e Corruption free India and Developement. These work can be done by only Kejriwal and his party AAP.

See the Delhi Develpoment work. Electricity 50% Free, Water Free, Medicine Free, Quality education in just 2 and half years. Now someone will tell too much freeby are not good. We donot have shortage in funds in India. Infact we have excess money but it is not enough for our politicans. If we love our country then everything is possible.

MCC is busy conducting raids on massage parlors, gaming centers etc for which they drew flak from HC, was just a waste of precious time n money which could have been diverted to more burning issues like repairing roads etc.!!

Also the contractors who build such shoddy roads should be blacklisted for a year!!

Any party which is in power is responsible for these pathetic road conditions besides many other civic problems. Public wants good governance. Elected parties be mindful of your promises. Majority Public have lost faith in both central and state governments.

    Media? Which Media?
Media owned by human beings, they work for themselves not for the general public.
They work for Political Parties, not for general Public.
Even if they work for general Public, what do they get? Absolutely nothing....
If they work for Government, Politicians, Political Parties, they get funds in Crores or even Billions.....
So just give up hope on "Media".

    Useful tips.:

Potholes are a good example of Rainwater Harvesting. There is plenty of water surplus available if there are no Tar, Concrete roads.
Mud roads are far more better than these roads.

For Vehicle buyers : even if you buy a vehicle costing Crores & Crores, you have to drive on these beautiful pothole filled roads.

For RTO officials : Conduct Driving Licence test on these roads, why to go far away to Vamanjoor by wasting too much time.

    Conclusion :

    MCC = Mangalore Commission Corporation.

    No commission, No work.

They are getting fat salaries and common man is drained by taxes. In return this is the service for public.
