Mangaluru: Phone-in with police commissioner - people find fault with bus staff behaviour

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 14: People came up with a number of complaints about flagrant violation of rules by private buses in the recent past, during the phone-in programme with the police commissioner of the city commissionerate. The people urged the commissioner to take stringent action against bus operators found guilty.

During the programme, police commissioner, T R Suresh, handled complaints he received from the general public and promised to initiate necessary action. Some said that in certain buses coming from the direction of Konaje, the buses display the name of the city as their destinations. "However, once the buses reach Pumpwell, we are forced go get down and board another bus bound for the city. As buses coming in from Konaje area have a large number of ailing persons coming to hospitals, they face undue hardships," the complainants narrated.

The city police commissioner asked president of Canara Bus Owners Association, Rajavarma Ballal, and president of Dakshina Kannada district Bus Oners Association president, Aziz Parthipady, to look into the matter and take corrective actions.

Good Time pass. Nothing has changed in so many years, and will not change until we have a strong DC like Bharathlal Mina. Police are in the pockets of the bus owners. Nothing can be done, unless people start revolution against the bus operators.
    Jai Hind.

If the city buses or service buses cant provide service to the public, permits of such buses should be canecelled. City bus conductors are very rude with elderly people, senior citizens and women. Pumpwell bust stop is an evidence for it. Elderly, sick, women are forcibly asked to get into another bus where they have to stand and travel.Do we need such bus service in Mangalore? Why cant the Police Commissiner and RTO cancel such permits and ask them pay heavy penalty for denying proper service to the public? BJP leaders are busy with lodging complaints in police stations and Congress leaders are busy cutting ribbons. Ministers, MLA, MLC (Cong/BJP) are not bothered about the citizens problems. Where is DYFI, Kannada Rakshana Vedike, Tulu Rakshana Vedike and other social activists of Mangalore? People welcome Govt buses in Mangalore city. So Police commissioner, RTO should get into action immediately.

Its very very disgusting behaviour and attitudes of city bus conductors in Mangalore. RTO and Traffic Police officers should come to Pumpwell and watch how they ask the passangers to get down and catch another bus. Best thing is Police Commissioner and the RTO officers recommend Govt buses to replace the private bus mafia. Citizens of Mangalore suffer everyday due to city buses. Where is our MP Nalin Kumar Kateel? Where is MLA J.R.Lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza? Where are ministers Ramanath Rai and Khader? Are ther concerned about the citizens or supporting the private bus mafia? 100% Govt buses implimentation only can stop this private bus mafia. If they dont solve this problem people should not vote for Congress or BJP. Every systyem is corrupt nad make general public suffer.

Complaints only but what is the action from respected PC/authorities? Unless department impose strict guidelines nobody going to care at least Mangaluru private bus operators.
Unless electronic ticketing system (Same as in Dubai i.e., only a card swipe to buy tickets, no conductor, no change issues, etc.,) comes to effect conductors force drivers to overtake, rash driving, sledging etc. i.e., playing with the life of commuters as well as road users. Another issue is eve teasing very common in these buses by conductors as they target single lady commuters often.

Indeed the city buses are a menace in the Mangalore. The drivers behave in such a way as they are above board. It is encouraging to see that The Police Commissioner T R Suresh has handled complaints he received from the general public and has promised to initiate necessary action.

The present Police Commissioner is a person of few words but he says what he means and means what he says.

Hope the rules are strictly imposed relating to speed and overtaking.

This indicates utter failure of our officials /elected members. Public is raising these issues regularly for the last 6-8 years and all these so called authorities elected members failed to address the issue.
Why you don't have authority or guts to take corrective action and nationalize these rodent private buses or bring a professional transport system like BEST Mumbai?

Disgusting behavior of bus conductors & Drivers.(pls note not all but many ) Specially Mangalore -Manipal Express buses.
I have been travelling Udupi - Mangalore regularly & noticed the following.
Many people (Doctors/Lecturers/Bank Officers/pro students- High caliber passengers, travel in these buses everyday.
Conductor shouting @ ladies for stopping/or getting off the bus other than the bus stop. Driver stops, Conductor shouts.
When the ladies gets down commenting on her dress…the way she walks…sometime commenting on girls parents.
Conductor shouting @ ladies to sit properly in the bus for sitting adjustment for 3/4 passengers in a seat.
Shouting @ the passengers…"You educated people don’t know how to behave in the bus "?- common Dialogue .
For all these comments there will be few to laugh & encourage them.
The highly respectable passengers don’t want argue & fight with these bus staff.
I appreciate police commissioner will take action, because DK/Udupi citizen deserve respect.

Unless they do not start professional bus services on the lines of BEST in Mumbai nothing is going to improve, but the pvt bus lobby is too powerful for this change to happen ever!!!

Pvt bus service here is the worst ever with the watchdogs turning a blind eye to their excesses!!

We were to travel from Fr.Muller's Kankanadi Hospital to Kottara. We caught the regular bus No.15
Conductor was barking - Nanthur, Bijai, KSRTC, Lalbaug, Lady Hill, Urva Stores, Kottara etc. We
paid the money for Kottara. After the bus reached Nanthur High way they have driven away bus
directly on the high way without stopping. Bus has not gone to the above mentioned places. They
dropped us mangalore bunder. Since it was late evening around 8 pm we had hell of problems to
come back to Kottara. Even the driver and conductors were very rude.

Waste of time in this Phone- in programme. If administration have gusts then nationalise the DK buses and give good and healthy traffic system . But they won't do this because of big lobby and no body can over come that.

As Presidents of the Bus Owners Association both Mr. Rajaverma Ballal n Aziz Parthipady were unknown of the situation is it?

Was your direction for them to look into the matter required?

Or is it that their failure todate needs your corrective measure.

No point in bringing to light any greivances if these are the corrective measures.
