Bengaluru: Home minister defends state of potholes, says 'natural after rainfall'

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 14: Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy defended the state government by saying the dilapidated state of Bengaluru roads is natural after heavy rainfall.

At a press conference, he said “roads in Chennai and Hyderabad also get damaged after heavy rains. In the case of Bengaluru, the city has witnessed rainfall that is unprecedented in the last 30 years”.

Reddy’s statements intended to defend the Congress government in state which is being criticized for the poor road conditions, which caused four deaths in Bengaluru in the last few days.

The rains have caused road damage and increased potholes. There were around 9,000 potholes before rains which has now reached 33,621. Though contractors want to take up the repair work, they are not able to due to heavy rains, he said and added that Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George will take action against contractors who have done shoddy work.

Reacting to BJP’s protest on Thursday by painting potholes and planting saplings, he said it is better if opposition joins hands with the government to solve issues than indulging in cheap politics.

What is the use of having minister of Blore development, urban development, district in charge, pwd minister, when they least brothered about supervising and directing the works needs to be done for the public benefits. We pay huge amount of taxes to feed these illiterates and they enjoy the life time benefits at the cost of poor people. Today Gvt has 27 lakhs to spend Vidhana Saudha celebration, Govt has money to change ministers vehicles, Gvt has money to spend politicians treatments in abroad, but no money to construct roads, fill potholes. Public is paying road tax at the time of registration of vehicles, Is our Govt is using that money to maintain the roads? No Bcz politicians knows that they can fool people easily by appeasing and dividing on religion basis.

You can not blame only state. Look at national highways and Manipal roads! Bhakthas and Congress people use same yard sticks! I have seen in the gulf they repair the pot holes by cutting the damaged areas by grinder cutters to deep level and repair it right. I have not seen that type of pot hole repairs in India. At least cut the edges of pot holes and fill it with right material, compact it and then tarmac the same. For few years we will not see same pot holes surfacing. But these repairs should be done under some supervision of NITK/ KREC civil engineering department or ex-service officers undertaken road works or highway engineering. Is there any one to agree with me?

So Mr. home minister, are these deaths also natural after rainfall? if someone from your family dies then also your response will be same? at least try to arrange some warning signs or diversions before filling potholes so the people may aware of the dangers. I respect congress for what they are doing in Karnataka, but this statement is not respectable......

    Yo lukas,

You are reading a Karnataka regional news portal and hence there will be more news about karnataka then Gujarat and Chennai.
If you want read the reaction of people in Gujarat and TN for the state of their roads, please visit the news websites of those region and you will easily see that people there are not praising their Governments either.

And more importantly, pointing out the deficiencies in Gujarat and TN will not mitigate the incompetence and impotence of the present Karnataka Government in fixing the state of roads. Rains during monsoon are a fact of life which everyone knows and using that as an excuse every year is sheer incompetence and nothing but BS.

Dear Home minister and Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George both of you lack knowledge, it is not normal to have potholes unless you it is poor quality of roads. The only good quality you politicians have is how to maximise on making money.

The moral of the story is do not elect Congress / bjp or gowda parties for next 20 years. Mangalore is no less . All they want is increase tax. I hope even khader and lobo is listening.

Our beautiful Bangalore also known as Silicon valley of India has Thousands of companies with lakhs of people travelling to work in all directions in the city everyday.

Almost all the roads in the city have now developed Pot Holes and there is atleast one fatal accident occurring everyday. Yesterday the 13th October 10 Pothole deaths

However, it is very sad to see that there are no roads and drainage system even a small rain creates lot of morass and mud. It is very difficult for people to even walk. They cause accidents, traffic jams and are a serious danger to citizens. no garbage disposal system in most areas.

Everywhere we see heaps of garbage. The BBMP do not listen to the citizens even after multiple complaints. MLAs are not taking interest in their areas.

Main problem in most areas is due to the same are not coming under BBMP and so nobody seems concerned about development . Either BBMP should take over control of these areas or make some organisation to look after these areas who are is a victim of civic apathy.

If thousands of us from Bangalore sign this petition, we will be able to build enough pressure on the BBMP Mayor and Commissioner to take this civic issue very seriously.
All the bodies Like BBMP, BDA , CORPORATION etc should all come under one Authority and Under One umbrella .

With strong public demand, we will have a stronger case to demand roads to walk and drive in this once Garden city Bangalore .
We demand proper drainage system so that Storm Water gets drained immediately and does not enter our Houses/Flats.

The quality of Bitumin is poor and if the Roads are laid well they will last for atleast 3 years and tehre will not be any pot holes .

We citizens will refuse to pay our Taxes next year and demand a refund of our Tax for the current financial year.

improper bedding for the road and NO drainage of rain water from road leads to potholes. if you let water go to the drainage then there won't be any water on road that would damage the road. BLAMING RAIN. LOL.

No doubt heavy rainfall. But have you checked the quality of the bitumin used for the road. Cheap quality is used. There is a nexus between the ministers and the contractors . The contractors know if quality of work is done then they will be jobless. Stop giving all these excuses. It is lesson for the voters who have voted the congress and the BJP. It’s high time bring some other party. Give them a chance to prove their worth.

How lame can this excuse be? Roads are constructed with poor quality products and because of which, the rain washes it away. If they start using substantial products in the construction of roads, we wouldn’t be facing so many potholes and deaths as well.
The biggest suggestion would be to stop giving road construction contracts to private agencies, because poor quality products are used and then remaining money is for them to keep.
