Mangaluru, Oct 14: Kasturba Medical College celebrated commemorative function of ‘KMC light house hill campus @ 50’ on Friday October 13. Vasanthi R Pai, chairperson of hostel management committee was the chief guest in the function.
Chairman of medical education and medical group Dr Ranjan R Pai, chairman of Manipal Health Enterprises Dr H Sudharshan Ballal, Pro vice chancellor Manipal University Dr V Surendra Shetty and Pro vice chancellor Manipal University Dr Poornima Baliga graced the occasion.
Dr K R Shetty, Dr B M Hegde, Dr C R Kamath, Dr A V Shetty, Dr H T Manorama Rao, Dr R S Mahale, Dr C R Ballal, Dr M Laxman Pai, Dr M Govind Bhat, Dr Sunanda Kini, Dr K R Kamath and Jossie Lasrado (non-teaching staff) were felicitated by dignitaries for their outstanding service. They served the institution in its initial days.
After receiving the honours, on behalf all felicitated Dr CR Ballal said, “I was the third batch student of the institution in 1955 and passed out in 1960. During that time KMC made big news for its first PG course in medical science which was the first in district,”
“During my time, KMC Mangalore meant a Cambridge in India. Today, the college has still maintained the same name and popularity. It has been sustained due to passion, vision and dedicated service of Pai family. We are grateful to their contribution in medical field of Karnataka as well as in India. The infrastructure which they provided to the college was a revolutionary step in education sector in olden days. They still continue to revolutionize the field of education today. Our college is blessed. We have got dedicated staff and administration. Because of this, students feel that they are getting the best possible help in finding their potentials. I thank the current administration for this felicitation. The news of felicitation itself brought us joy and happiness,” he added.
In his commemorative address, Dr H Sudarshan Ballal said, “KMC is one of the best colleges in world and is a gift of God to this city. T M A Pai started this college with a good intention. Today, hundreds of doctors who studied here are shining in various parts of the world. In Europe and American states KMC is the common name because of our doctors who are spreading the college name with their good service.”
“Today we are proud to say that our college completes fifty years- a mile stone in our history. We gratefully remember the contributions of Pai family to the medical field. On this occasion, we have gathered here to say a thank you to them,” he added.
The commemorative plaque was released by Vasanthi R Pai on the occasion.
Dr H Sudarshan Ballal raised a toast in the name of the institution. Unnikrishnan rendered vote of thanks.
