Puttur: Vaishnav Hegde of SPC clinches three medals at national aquatic ch'ship

Puttur, Oct 13: Vaishnav Hegde a student of BBA at St Philomina College, here brought glory to the state on Wednesday, October 11, clinching  two silver and a bronze medal at the 71st Senior National Aquatic Championship in Bhopal.

Vaishnav represented Team Karnataka at the championship. He clocked 29.71 in 50 mt breaststroke, winning bronze. Indian Olympian Sandeep Sejwal won the gold clocking 28.4. Vaishnav also won two silver medals in the 4x50 metres freestyle relay and 4x50 metres medley relay.


 

 

Team Karnataka won the overall team championship with 90 points lead over first runnersup Maharashtra and second runners up Indian Railways. Karnataka has been winning the overall team championship for 23 consecutive years.

Vaishnav of Puttur Aquatic Club contributed 24 points in individual and relay events.

He is being trained by coach Partha Varanashi, coach Vasanth Kumar and coach Niroop G R at Dr Shivarama Karanth Swimming Pool, Puttur.
